trail tough gears

Saw the gears on their website and liked the sound of the 4.9:1 gears. 115% lower in low and 16%in high. Anyone have any beefs with trail tough gears, ie; poor quality, no warranty, etcetcetc....
They should push along a zook on lux diffs and 33's nicely i would think, yes?

Who in sydney stocks trail tough products?

i would saw no too 4.9s you will need the 6.4s cause they have 20+% lower gering in high range. i run 21% lower with 33s and it brings it back too close to stock gearing remember your going from 26" to 33" its a big jump. pretty shaw overkill engineering does trailtuff

I was about to post the same question as I have been corresponding with them in the last few days on getting hold of a set.

I firmly beleive that when you put new gears into a Sierra transfer case, you may as well replace all of the bearings, seals, counter shaft, thrust washers and gaskets. I do have a quarm in respect I think it is bloody useless that all of these US suppliers of gear ratios only supply the 1x counterhshaft/2x needles/2x thrust washer/seals/gaskets in their respective kits. That is only half a kit and all 10x bearings should be supplied (ie. 5x needles and 5x ball bearings). If you are going to do the job you may as well do it properly not half do it.

When I checked further into it Trail Tough supply a bearing kit but it only has the ball bearings and not the other 3x needles that are required. The kit also contains all 3x seals and 2x gaskets. So to buy their 6.4:1 gear kit and get a bearing kit it is still not complete, as well as some doubling up on parts such as seals and gaskets. The thought process now turns to buying the 6.4:1 gear kit=$719.00USD+freight approx @ $50.00USD=$769.00USD converts to=$1025.00AUD (@.75USD)+5% duty+ 10% GST=$1183.00AUD on your door step, then buy the balance of bearings of 8x bearings locally (1x non genuine needle roller, 2x genuine needle rollers, 5x non genuine ball bearings)=$129.00, total cost to do the job right=$1312.00, unless the freight can be got cheaper.

regarding quality of the gears:

Trail Tough's Rock Monster gears are made in Japan by the same people that make OEM Suzuki Gears
ht zook with bog, rust and mt's

Mate, you've missed the point totally.

With Rockhopper you get the option of purchasing a full overhaul kit. It is the better way to do it, instead of receiving a half a kit.

nothing wrong with "made in japan" prob some of the best products & cars are made are in japan

Rockhopper is made in Japan by Seamster and indented via Don Kyatt for BBM. Seamaster manufacture a lot of gears for many companies, but they just don't seem to have it right in the case of Sierra-Rockhopper Series 3 gears.

sorry mate i thought the $1312 was the extra bits added on top aswell :oops:
and yes when i did my gears i relaced all the parts you have listed above ;)

Now you've got it!

I am definately not promoting Rockhopper, only the fact that it is ridiculous that the US suppliers only provide their gear sets with half an overhaul kit, meaning that you're only able to do half a job with what they supply.

sam from overkill engineering has supplied me with the 6.4:1 trail tough gears and they are hard to get so i would get in contact with him. and yes i believe they have warranty :cool: so far they are the goods :D really quiet and no vibes and yes all bearings and idler shaft were replaced so case is pretty much brand new. my rig has 37s and 4.88 gq diffs it pushes them quite well.
