differential unit

Post by Daniela »

Hi to everybody!
One more problem with my Feroza: I started hearing a clanking sound coming probably from the back differential unit when I stop pushing on the accelerator and when I push on it again while running.
What do you think it might be happening? Is it serious?
Thanks. Bye!
Is there anybody who can tell me which brands of gearbox (other than the original) are compatible with Feroza F300 year 1990?
Thanks a lot.

Check your engine mounts, are the gearknobs moving under acceleration?

Your drivetrain is loose - either diff is in a very bad way, but more likely, the universal joints are loose.

Check the main driveshaft first - brakes on, car in neutral, grab the drive shaft (but that comes from the engine to the diff) and twist back and forth - if it moves and clunks look for where it is breaking, most likely the uni. Check the others by putting car in gear and brakes off, rock the car and see if one/both sides are loose.

They are cheap too :-)

Hi !!!
RobF300, RockyF70
and DREWE (to whom I'm addressing this message)
and thanks a lot for your answers.
I had to make an in-depth study of the technical terms. Moreover, I don't know anything abourt cars, but your aswers sound extremely clear.
Hope the mechanic will be able to see things as you see them... ;-)
