1 ltr tranny

Post by chunderlicious »

i just pulled the transfer out of my 84 (march) 1 litre tin top shorty. i was wondering if it had longs or shorts? if its the longs ill sell the bastard and get back what i payed for the car and if its shorts then ill keep it as my transfer with a new box and engine. any help would be appreciated.

how can i tell if it is the longs or shorts?

cheers

How do you mean "longs or shorts"? I'd just take the weather into account, as I normally would when I'm dressing my Sierra.

hes talking about the flanges..he wants to know if its the rare tranny that everyones chasing that bolts straight onto the 1.3 or not. And i though the car was a march 85 on the mod plate ev? correct me if wrong. it is a 1L engine and has the 4wd light if this helps anybody determine which tranny it is.

I haven't heard of "long or shorts" (only in the mounts on an LJ gearbox or transfer case) previously but the second series 1.0l Sierra is the model with the transfer case closely equal to a 1.3l. This came about on the 8/83+ and has the 4WD light switch but different flanges to a 1.3l. If it has a metal dash it is series II and plastic dash (similar to 1.3l) is a series III on. Both have the same transfer case but the gearboxes are different and thought that he might have accidentally been refering to the gearbox instead of transfer case as there is a long and short version of a 1.0l gearbox.
