freewheeling hub bolts - stuck good

Post by gurumon »

aaarrrgh.

sat down to strip the front end of the mq this morning. cannot budge the retaining bolts for the free wheeling hubs.

ive tried wd40, ive tried flogging it with a hammer, ive tried wrenching on the allen key with a massive extension bar and if i give it anymore the allen key will snap.

one or two being this way i couldd understand - but it's every bolt!

what am i missing?!?! theyre not left hand thread are they?

before anyone suggests it - i dont have an oxy and i dont have penetrine

I once removed two fw hub bolts that were stuck like you described with a rattle gun and allen key socket, I have no idea how they could get that tight.

heaps of hammering, heaps of wd40, and heaps of extension bar action and i finally got them all out.

pulled the hub off and and few metal shavings came out with it - always a good sign.

now im stumped again....

i got the drive bush off and i can see the adjusting nut but i can't get at it. the manual mentioned another snap ring which i dont seem to have.... and it also says to knock back a washer to expose the nut - ive knocked back the outer part of the housing as far as it can go and i still can't get a socket on that nut.

why does my pos never look like the pics in teh manual :?
