Turbo Overhaul Kit
does anyone know where I can purchase an overhaul kit, or just parts in general, for a toyota CT20 turbo? Toyota only sells the whole turbo.

that's a fib perpetrated by turbo reconditioners to make you take your turbo to them. the turbine shaft assembly and the compressor wheel are individually balanced and it's not rocket science to put them back together in the same alignment that they were originally assembled. I have overhauled a number of turbos over the years and they are all to my knowledge still going strong.up2nogood wrote:Because they have to be balanced, you will have to buy an exchange recon or newy......

What about checking for shaft run-out? I have worked for a turbo shop, and personally, i;d say bolt it together yourself, but atleast have the rotating assy balanced and run out checked by a shop-should only cost approx $50.

U only have to rebalance them if you change the combination of comp/exhaust wheels and shaft. If your re-using the old one you can mark it all and put it back together in the same spot, ive never had or heard of one that was unbalanced after using this method.up2nogood wrote:Because they have to be balanced, you will have to buy an exchange recon or newy......

Like Dunce said, its more a myth to stop numpty people from doing reco's and having to deal with warranty and guarantee issues.
