Are you talking about the guts of the actual differential or can you get the whole diff and swap it into another axle housing?

Is a 1990 IFS or live axle?

If its an IFS truck the rear diff is wider isn't it? Which would mean different axles?

the 83' is a 18R, 4speed, live axel, single cab, style side
the 90' is a 22R, 5speed, live axel, single cab, style side

i just need an axel and possably the diff housing and i have a spair diff from/for the 83' sitting in the shed

so just wondering if i can swap the whole diff over and put my 90's center in teh 83' housing?

From what I've read they are interchangeable. My 90 mod SR5 live axle had bigger drums on rear than earlier, and the housing itself had bigger axle tubes, but internally should be same.

the axels are the same, the ratio is different; maybe 4.8 for the '83 and 4.3 for the '90model the brakes are bigger on the '90 , as far as I know the houseing has the same spring sadle location. Also as far as I know the non LSD hemispheres out of a 4.8 geared centre won't accept the taller crownwheel and pinion(4.3). I'll stand corrected on any of these bits of info. cheers

every thing is interchangable except the drums ecvty,Lsd didn`t come in early lux`s and pretty sure the early lux`s had a narrower and differant welded housing.
