i have a cb and a uhf antanner there both over 6 feet tall and i dont wont a massive one on my lux, what i wont to know is if i cut the top half off will it matter at all

YES! it is a tuned length.

YES it will matter. The antennai has to be tuned, standing wave ratio (SWR), to your transmitter. If the antennai is the wrong length, the power dissipated into it will be forced back to your set...no a good senario.

Buy a shorter antennai...and make sure its tuned.
