Reducing leaf spring twist at droop???
Problem: Leaf springs twisting crap loads under droop
Solution: ????
Is there any product available that can allow for better twist within the spring eyes(bushes)etc hence allowing more droop???
I have seen the bushes that can be pressed into the spring eyes(think ORI do them) that are supposed to allow for twist, but havn't heard much about them. Anyone???
I'm thinking of going to 2inch extended shackles with longer leafs in the future too, which is why I'm trying to help better this problem now. (and I don't want drop shackes either.)

mine twist heaps under full drop. i don't think there is anything wrong with it. if you don't want your spring to twist you'd have to have some kind of pivoting spring perch, cos remember, as your diff articulates, it is bolted to your spring

Nope, I still reckon the shocks still have about 1-1.5 inches left in them. I have just put rubber bushes in too, but after being able to ramp it and get out and have a good look, I was just looking for maybe a better solution to help relieve some of the twisting in it.bazzle wrote:Are your shocks fully extending??

Yeah mine seems fine too, but just reckon I can get more outta it by relieving some of the twist. these are what I'm talking about. I know they are shown for trailing arms etc but I think I have seen something similar advertised for leaf springs too if my memory serves me correctly.

On these pics, it looks like you have custom hangers made up, or did you just move the hanger forwards???? Also, did you have to get some sort of special bolt to run these orbital eyes to stop them from sliding sideways into the hanger and/or shackle???

I believe they come with spacers to stop the joint moving sideways. You will most probably find that more "road feel" will be transmitted through to the vehicle as there is less give in the small nylon bush in the bollocks joint.brighty wrote:Thats the sort of pics and info I was after!!!!! You could remove your shackle mount and fit one of a landcruiser that takes a larger rubber bush that will provide more flex.

We had a couple of rigs running these in Toowoomba. My springs are on a hilux, they are 61" made by my friend & sponsor. The orbit eye bush is 50mm wide & a hilux spring is 60mm so we just trimmed 5mm off both sides before he rolled the eyes. this requires extra room in the front mount to allow for the size of the bush & spring to move without binding. We had to relocate the front mount forward. I machined up some spacers to sit either side of the orbit eyes. I heard all sorts of weird stuff about how they would affect the car. But i have run them for about the last 2 years, it is a daily driver & gets used at comps. I have found them to be good overall. the only bad thing i have come across is after a while they start getting a bit squeeky, but then you just grease them & away you go again. On road they do produce a little more bodyroll, but IMO its not bad.

1: My springs are 70mm, so do you reckon 10mm off each side is excessive/weakening the spring???
2: How did you get the orbit eyes in the spring??? press them in or are they just a snug fit???
3: Have you checked the nylon bushes inside them for wear/rebuilt them???? If so, how long do they last???
And as for body roll... I seriously don't think I'd even notice it in my rig, she loves throwing her weight around!!!!
