Re: 22R timing chain.....how many links?
option 1: pop your rocker cover off, put a dab of paint on one link, count that as link number 1, and get an assistant to crank the motor over with a socket on the crankshaft pulley as you count the links. easier with the spark plugs out.big bundy wrote:hey guys i gotta order the timing chain for the 22R tommorrow, and bursons wasn't sure one how many links it was, there two kits for a 22R, the 22R is in an1985 RJ70 if that helps, from memory it was either 96 or 98 links

option 2: buy both kits and return the one you don't need for a refund/credit
the date of manufacture should determine the length of the chain.
it is a poo job, I would rather replace the engine than change the timing chain on one of those jabbers.
Free air locker to the first 20 callers!
Thanks dumdunce, I’ll grab both the kits and return one I think, I have made more room for myself, last night I pulled the bull bar off, radiator and front grill and all that crap so I got a fair bit of room there to play with. Hopefully it won’t be too hard Good place to start learnin eyy?

well i asked bursons to get in both the kits, they only were able to get the 98 chain link, and guess what mine was, the 96 of course aghhh
have to go back to busons on monday and tell them to get me the 96 kit, as one of the dampners has a differne t length too in the kits, so i didn't wanna grind em down.
this is the dampner that shat itself

Your replacement chain guides should be steel not Plastic. If they are plastic i wouldnt use them. Steel guides are available. If yours is 96 then you have an early short block. Sorry i didnt read this earlier because im pretty sure the Tall blocks started some time in 1990.big bundy wrote:well i asked bursons to get in both the kits, they only were able to get the 98 chain link, and guess what mine was, the 96 of course aghhh
