Engine problem when cold

Post by drewe »

Hey all,

Got this REAL WEIRD engine problem when the engine is first started - I just had my head fully redone....

The car just DOESN"T want to go past 3000 revs - even out of gear. In gear, you got no hope for 5 minutes or so.

:(

However, if you rev it, just hold the accell down out of gear, it slowly goes through 3000, through 4000 and at about 4200 it 'breaks free' and revs freely.....

Strange

Now I can drive for 5 minutes, or i can rev as soon as I start the car, but either way you gotta 'break' through - I now start it, rev once to 4500 (though I know this is bad for the car with cold oil etc) and it is cool - cause if I don't in the morning, I can't get u pmy hill faster than 20, and in the afternoon I can't get through the roundabout at the train station - just can't go!

Help? Anyone had this????

i had similar in my old nissan, it was only firing on 3cylinders when cold, and after new sparkies was ok :?. Does it idle? And if i does, does it idle normally or really low like its about to die? If it isn't idleing proply either, pop hood and start it, and pull out the leads one by one untill you find out wich one aint firing. Might wanna weard gloves or sumthink, as when i did this to the ones that WHERE firing on my car it'd give us a lil zap everythime it was supposed to fire  , not painful, but annoying enough to make us drop the lead :D

nah - she idles like a bought one....

Just had the head machined - new leads, plugs, tune up, cap, filters, etc - timing belt, etc, is all new as well.............

It runs normal until about 2500 - then is a slug to 4200, then is fine until she is cold again!

I will reset the ECU tomorrow (gotta do some stereo wiring anyway....), but don't think it will help being a 'one off' problem....

i have just done the head gasket on mine aswell, and replaced leads, rotor button, dizzy cap and fitted bosh super4 plugs ($50 set). im having a similar prob with mine but not as bad, just seems to lack a bit of power till she warms up. i just give it a couple of minutes to warm up and shes fine. i wonder if maybe it has something to do with automatic choke,i dont know is this a posibility?

I was thinking along those lines - but EFI doesn't have a choke...... IT just adjusts the mi\xture ased on the oxy sensor and idle - I will reset the EXU and see what happens.....
