Hilux and glow plugs q?

Hi guys,

I went and looked at a 92 Hilux SR5 dual cab 2.8D yesterday and the guy said that you dont need to hold the key in position to warm the glowplugs up before starting it... I thought this was weird because all the other hilux's that I have looked at had to warm the glowplugs...

Is it possible for this to happen? If not, what could it be?

You don't have to, but you bloody well should.
Diesel works on compression so as long as the engine can compress the air/fuel enough to combust then it works. Glow plugs give it the initial heat to help the engine. If you have been driving and it is up to running temp, just turn the key. If it is cold wait for the plugs; basically some guy didn't spend 5 years at uni to engineer an engine with extras that you don't need.

Is it possible he was talking about turning the key backwards.Never done this myself but I understand older (no idea how old) vehicles had this system which had no timers.

The salseman has been smoking bongs, best not buy something off him if he has no idea.

Like has already been said, glowplugs are for cold starts. Not really needed when the engine is warm but it doesn't hurt if you do or dont wait for them.
