I'm asking this just out of curiosity........I'm not a 'yota man....

My brother has just bought a new hilux in the UK and it's got 2 batteries in the engine bay...........why?

Could be that it's a 24V vehicle. Lots of Japanese and European 4x4's are 24V....

Found this on the UK website:

Battery Dual 12v - 65 Amp
Alternator output 12 v 70 Amp

So what is the dual battery for? Just to give more cranking amps? Seems unlikely.....

Some japanese trucks imported to Iceland have had dual batteries to enable 24V starting while the rest of the electrical system is 12V.
Probably that kind of setup.

Or it's just a dual battery system. 1 to crank and 1 to run fridges, winches etc.

If the second one goes completly flat overnight or something then you still can crank over in the morning no worries!!

best bet is for him to see how the 2 batteries are wired up, parrallel or series. I would put money on its a dual 12v system.
