cheapest powerup options 80 model hilux

Post by cplux »

posting for a mate who has just come across a very cheap '80 model hilux

His hilux has an L 2.2l diesel in it and he want to know what would be his cheapest option to give it a bit more poke. We are talking engine mods/swaps here not just little things.

As i have had pretty good success in supercharging my hilux 4y-c motor i suggested this on the L though dont know how it would handle it, But it could probably be done for under $500 on the L.

His other option as I see it is to swap in a 22R motor he has lying around and at the same time installing a 5sp gearbox which he also desires "later on". I dont know much about the older diesels so do not know what sort of engine mount/tranny mount mods may be necessary.

I'm also thinking Rover V8

any ideas. I dont think he'd want to spend much more than $1000

My opinion would be to kane the piss out of it and Then fit a surf motor in it with the 5 speed but there goes the $1000 budget
