Tyre choices?

I currently run BFG All Terrain 31 10.5 R15 on my HJ60 land cruiser and have the full set of five original rims sitting in the shed. These spare rims are 7.50R16LT.

My question is (and I've done a google) is there much available in this size in a fairly aggressive pattern? I found an Olympic "steel trek" and an ordinary looking Dunlop (I think) on the net, but for the most part this size doesn't look to good if you're wanting a muddy or something even better.

Am I wasting my time?

My thinking was that the skinnys are approximately 32in so I'll raise my diffs a touch and as I've already got the rims, maybe I could get some affordable play tyres in that size.

235/85R16 muds are readily available in most brands and are equivalent in size. They are slightly wider than the 7.50R16 and only a touch taller.
This'd probably be the better option.

olympic steeltrecks are reasonably agressive. They are what the army uses. Dunlop custom xtra grips are agressive as well and should be available in 7.50/16

You won't anything more aggresive in that size than the Simex MP Trekker...... or much tougher. As mentioned above, 8 ply s/walls.

try the silverstone mt117 tuff as tred. in 16's i think they make it to around a 35.. ( i dont know much of metric mesurments for tires )

My dad got 31" sumatomo serrengetis, there pretty chunky compared to a lot more expensive stuff, they were pretty cheap too.

He has the same landcruiser as the one in your pic too.

As Ryano has said the best option would be to look at getting 235/85r16, there should be a good selection to choose from.

I have 16x5.5 rims and have 225/75R16 BFG A/T's on, but your rims I think will be 16x6 therefore be able to go that extra bit wider.

If they are play tyres, the Simex would be alright. As they are a Bias tyre they are going to be a bit more resilient and damage proof offroad. On road they don't handle or drive as nicely as a Radial tyre. If you plan to do a few k's on the blacktop with these tyres (everyday drivers), I'd definitely look at getting Radials. Much nicer to drive on.

Thanks Ryano. They will probably stay on the truck most of the time as I only drive the car to work on Fridays (treat so I don't have to sit on the bus until 6) and occasionally to footy on Sat. Rest of the time the truck's used offroad.

The old 60 handles like a tank anyway, so I drive it accordingly.

Too true. The websites I can find don't say what sizes you can get, whether they are radial or bias, basically just a picture and two sentences of blurb that say they are good offroad..........

Unfortunately the Simex MP trekker is out due to the speed rating being too low to be legal in the ACT.

My next choice would be the Michelin XZL but they are a ridiculous $318 each for 7.50R16!

I'd like to get something different from the standard BFG MT or GY MTR, I want something a bit different and aggressive, but it looks like I'm out of luck.

After more suggestions.

The M/P Trekker looks awesome, and $200.00 you say!!

Two things then for me. i) Anywhere near Liverpool NSW that'll sell 'em for that kinda price? ii) My 75 handles/drives much better with split rims on than it does with Sunrasias with 32x11.5 muddies on.

I would like to get a set of the M/P trekkers. Any of you lot have any advice as to getting these skinny tyres on rims that don't look as dreadful as splits (mine look even worse than usual as some numpty painted them black.....)

you could check out the pro comp X-terian they are a agresive tyre with a similare tread pattern to the baja claw, but they are radial and last up to 65 thousand km's on road. they are also pretty cheap compared to others.

In victoria specified speed for tyres only needs to be 110kph (max legal speed limit).

In other states it may need to be as high as the originally installed rubber, or 130kph.

(in the ACT at least). these things have steel belts in the sidewalls, so should be damn tough!

If I get 'em, I'll sell my 1 year old BFG A/Ts with 25,000km on em. they're 31/10.5R15 mounted on sunraysia wheels (6 stud). What kinda price should I look for? they're probably only about 35% worn.
