WE Rock Judges wanted.

WE Rock Judges wanted.
Im wondering if anybody is keen to volunteer to become a judge for these WE Rock competitions. The ones Im really wanting to work towards initially are the rounds this year - Round 3 at Landcruiser park and the finals in Sydney.
Now depending on how keen people are to judge (and how many keen people there are for that matter) we can do this a few different ways.
Now one plan is that I find some people that are local to Brisbane and we do some training up here - and then do the Cruiser Park round. These people could also judge at the finals if they wanted. This would work well cause they could judge at the finals and they wouldnt be first timers.
Another way would be to get some Sydney people to judge the finals and we would do the training in Sydney the week before the finals with Big and Lil Rich when they get here from the US or with me at some other time.
Could obviously do a combination of both.
In terms of the numbers we need, ideally we should have two judges per course. So if we were running 5 courses all at the same time then we need 10 judges. If we get huge competitive numbers and we have to run 8 or 10 courses all at once (as they do in the US) then we need 16-20 people. We can of course get away with only having one judge per course if we dont get enough people.
It terms of what benefits the judges will get there are lots of different things that I can do.
The most obvious is to just pay the judges for there time and expenses (like travel/motel/food/beer etc). Now this is the most expensive for me to make happen and I really dont want to have to do this at this point if I dont have to.
I could just cover expenses (travel/motel/food/beer) which I think would be a really good thing to be able to do but again I might not be able to make happen.
Basically there is no money in what im doing at this time and I carnt see it changing until 2007 - the short reason for this year and next year every cent that I can raise will be going into sending the Australian team to the US for the world championship. If I can raise $40 000 (wishfull thinking) then I could easily spend $40000 sending rigs and people to the US. If I can only raise $10000 then we are screwed..........and we will just send what we can (probably just a container of rigs) and the competitors will pay there own way. 2007 will be different cause the World Championship (hopefully) will be in Australia - they will be in Australia at some point either way.
So what im really after is a bunch of people that are going to pay there own way to help out and judge - I dont know if people are going to be this keen.
One thing that I think i can make happen to get some benefit back to the judges is to have the judges compete in the actual competition (unoficially of course) What Im thinking is that I am always going to have a spare buggy (like the "homeless" or one of the "rentals") and what we could do is have each of the judges compete in this rig on their individual course. So that all the judges would together make up a team that would complete all the courses in the one vehicle. I think this would be alot of fun.
Could also run an entirely seperate competition for the judges and volunteers and just round up a few different rigs for them to compete in individually.
Anyway - just a couple of different ideas.
So if anybody is keen to be involved post here or PM me or ring me.

Hey Sam,love your work!!!Am super keen to get involved in the scene anyway possible.I was down your place a while back before tt,helping Rob(BJ) trying to get his POS to TT.I dont have a buggy yet,but would love the opportunity to be includeded in the sport in some way.I have been to most WE ROCKS and have followed the scene well before they started. Thus,i think i would have a reasonable idea come judging time and would be happy to do it entirely for the experience,er,a few beers would be nice.Anyway, can definitely make it to cruiser for round 3,and depending on the circumstances could get to the finals too.
Cheers
Chris.

Officials
I have been involved in mainly winch challenge comps as a competitor and last weekend as an official at Genie WC, our club has a few members the have been doing this for the Genie Winch Challenge series last year and this year and I dare say at least 6 to 12 would be dead keen to official over the weekend at LMP.
At the winch challenge weekends you get free entry to the park and dinner on the Saturday night and the privilege of getting a front row seat!!!
So count me in for at least 2 judges and if you want I'll chase up more?
Cheers

OK thanks guys for all the responses - lots of keep people.
Now all we got to do is work out a time to get together and run through a few things. Ive got to go down to Milbordale to look at the tracks on the 10th Sept and also picking up the homeless as well. Soon after that we should have the rentals built as well so we could probably get together sometime after that - Im guessing 17/18 Sept would be a good weekend (2 weeks before the cruza comp - in case we break some stuff) - good to give the rentals a bit of a shackdown as well.
Does 17/18 Sept clash with anything??

This first one yes. Probably do it at my place at Logan Village.Barathrum wrote: This training will take place somewhere in QLD?
For the finals we would probably do training the weekend before the actual event at the tuff truck site with the Rich's.
At this point it looks like we have got lots of keen people that want to help.
Im thinking we can have a judges competition within the actual proper competition and it would go something like this.
We have a pair of judges on each course.
We have a pair of marshells (for want of a better name?) that oversee all the other judges get all the score back to the office and just generally help out where they can.
Now we have one competition buggy that all the judges and the marshells will compete in. Its the marshells job to look after the buggy and keep it running (fixing broken stuff etc). What then happens is that each pair of judges compete in the buggy on their course with the marshells judging them. The marshell then compete in the buggy on the final shoot out course. We then look at how each judge scored compared to the actual competitors on their course and work out the best judge based on their comparitive placing.
For example:
On A1 the A1 judges score 27 penalities which puts them in 3rd place compared to the rest of the competitors on that course.
On A2 the A2 judges score 7 penalities which puts them in 5th place compared to the rest of the competitors on that course.
On A3 the A3 judges score 35 penalities which puts them in 6th place compared to the rest of the competitors on that course.
On A4 the A4 judges score -12 penalities which puts them in 2nd place compared to the rest of the competitors on that course.
On these results the winning judge is A4, second is A1, third is A2 and 4th is A3
Now the thing I havnt worked out yet is how to split a tiebreak is say both the A1 judges and A4 judges both finishhed 4th compared to the other competitors.
Doing something like this should be alot of fun and it wont disrupt the running of the event because the judges will just be competing just like any other competitor. Would be really cool if a judge could take a stage win.
Only downside is I can imaging the judges would be really hard on the rig and would probably break lots of parts which would be a PITA for the marshells cause they will have to fix the rig everytime. But if everybody drives sensibly and actually tries to be as competitive as they can there shouldnt be any more breakages than a normal competitor.
Any thoughts?
Sam
If the judges treat the vehicle with respect, there should only be minimum breakages. They need to realise that they are being given a great opportunity by being able to compete in one stage of the comp for nothing more than their time and effort; in helping to run the event. Breakages will happen but there’s driving hard and then there’s driving HARD. The reward for your effort is great but don’t stuff it for every one else.
That said it all sounds like a great idea
That said it all sounds like a great idea
Only thing with doing something like this is that it will take extra event time make this happen and I doubt that we will have the time.2manytoys wrote:to split a tie break you could run the judges agaisnt each other on a differnt course.
ie A1 and A4 tie then run them bothe on course 3 and see who wins then. just a thought.
Probably just a matter of just adding up the total penalities of the course and working out the judges penalities as a percentage of that. Then who ever scored the lowest percentage penalities would win the tie break.
I think that should work and once we get the scoring set up on a laptop should be easy to work out.
Sam
also on the sat night sam any maintanance or repairs should consist of some or all of the judges as we are driving it so why not fix it cause i know most of damos crew (me for one ) would be happy to but if things do break will we have the parts (cv's and the like) there to fix it?
If the judges are driving and able to compare a score with the final comp then we should treat the opportunity like a team but also a comp within the team
All a great idea though sam

Sorry i have been a bit slack on this but anybody who is keen should come out to my place on Saturday 24th Sept (tomorrow) and we will run through the rules and practice a few things as well.
Also the way things have panned out the judges drivers competition is going to be a fairly big part in the competition. The homeless is being setup with new mickey thompson comp claws and new panels and is going to used to promote the Mickey Thompson brand. So basically the people who are judging really do need to be realy keen to compete.
The judges competition will be called the WE Rock Judges Cup and Im getting a perpetual shield made up (will record the winning judging team for each event) as well as tophies for the winners.
Should be a lot of fun.
So turn up at my place tomorrow from about 9am till whenever so we can run through some of the rules and have a bit of a practice driving the homeless.
Address is:
139 Murray Rd
Logan village 4207
Murray Rd is a dead end street and we are straight of the end of the dead end street.
Also give me a ring on my mobile 0414 611 645 for anything.
The competition rules (if you want to have a quick read through) are here:
http://www.werockaustralia.com/Rule%20Book.pdf with the exception that there are no stopping penalities which makes things alot simpler for us (meaning competitors can stop for as long as they want without penality - as long as they do go over the time allowed)
Anybody else who is keen to judge but carnt make it tomorrow give me a ring and we can still organise something else.

Here is a couple of pics of the new homeless. Tony has worked some of his magic on the front end. Probably do the same front end treatment to the mog next time it gets rolled.
Still got to be sign written and new tyres and some headlights and stuff - but should end up looking fairly flash. Basically i can guarantee that the Judges competition and this vehicle will get 4x4 Australia magazine coverage.
Like i said going to be alot of fun.....and I got lots of spare parts.......
