A new clunk, clunk noise
God Im having some bad luck lately
Was pushing through some snow on the weekend up at mt Skene(not that there was much) and I got stuck. I got pulled out and off I went on my way when I started hearing this clunk clunk noise, Not continuesly at this stage. I thought it was just the suspension settling down.
This noise happens all the time now and in all 4wd modes , and has to be under load , its a clunk clunk noise and gets faster when u pick up speed. It does sound like its comming from the transfer case.
Any Ideas what it could be
Cheers
Glenn

Im preying its the reco CV, it will be under warranty. But I dont think so its more of a clunk than a click.
But to rub salt into my wounds I thought I would check the front diff to see if there was any metal shavings in the oil(nothing) but what I also found was engine oil all over the front diff think it might be leaking through the sump gasket( I think that was it is) at the front.
is that easy to fix?
Cheers

Its the chain sliping in the transfer case $650 for just the chain
And for my oil leak they have to take off the front of the engine to get to it.
So were am I at
$700 for the aircon compressor
$400 for oil leak
$1200+ for chain, transfer case
I new 4wding wasnt a cheap hobby but $2.5k+ in just 2 weeks
Sorry for the wine

How much for a used chain ?.
I have a broken transfer here from a gen 2, the rear UJ failed and threw the shaft, smashing the out put housing and snapping the output shaft.
The chain is free if you pay freight, I dont know if the manual has specs for measuring the chain for wear out of the box.
I think you might be able to replace the chain in place, ask Frank, get a mate who's mechanical to come round and give you a hand.
You only need the chain for 4WD so it's not urgent, and its winter so the air cond can wait, I have bought used pumps for $50, might be worth a try.
