Or perhaps high n mighty's question from earlier this year about any "known" problems with baffles in 2L/3L series rover covers causing problems in turbo applications.

blowby from a freshly rebuilt motor should be minimal, but will be higher until the rings seat (maybe 5000km - not enough to make it smoke though). shuld have no trouble with small boost and the factory crankcase breather in the rocker cover. hope he got it sorted out.+dj_hansen+ wrote:http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... highlight=

Dear dunce, if im doing the speed of light in my hilux (:?) and i turn on the headlights at night, will i be able to see ahead of me?
welded centres are good in the front since you can unlock them with locking hubs. not very safe in the rear and fairly illegal (but then what mods aren't) pllus you'll go through tyres about 4 times faster, ie in 2 - 3 years what you spend on an air locker, you'll save on tyre wear.
If you are travelling at the speed of light in anything, you have far bigger problems to worry about, like every molecule in your body becoming infinitely massive. but I am building a bigger potato cannon to test this theory.

me and my mates built a cannon that could fire 2 inch diameter solid aluminium "bullets" thru the side of a car , although the speed of light thing still eluded usdumbdunce wrote: If you are travelling at the speed of light in anything, you have far bigger problems to worry about, like every molecule in your body becoming infinitely massive. but I am building a bigger potato cannon to test this theory.
the size of the hole in the side of the car deffinately convinced me that my H motor had to go ..... the 6.5 chev V8 now provides my "bullet" with the force required to do damage
but now i need to lasso the speed of sound to try slow me down as my brakes arent really up to the job.

no ...... sorry
it was a 6 inch diameter steel "blast" chamber reduced down to 2 inch steel barrel ..... powered by oxy / acetelyene .... the ally rod was going to be a mates body lift blocks but we decided it wasnt a large enough diameter for that , so we thought it would be perfect as projectiles for the steel spud gun

Ok mr Dunce
abit of an easy one that i cant find info on.
What years was the W56 used in the hilux and would this be a bolt in swap for a G52 or would there need to be crossmember and shaft changes?
Cheers

no idea but if the toy4x4 email list still exists someone on there will know. There's also archives back to 2001 so if you're keen on searching you might find it.

Those cases twist and split, they aren't very strong, and with the price of a 5 speed with transfer in decent condition cheaper than the rebuild cost of a single piece transfer, it's hardly worth it unless you are doing a special restoration.
All landcruiser transfers are noisy, it comes with the territory - learn to love it!

what is the easist way to tell the differance in L series timing covers, both inners and outers?
where would i find a 3.9 diff center, what trans axle code is it and how would this relate, to same another diff center with the same trans code? what problems could i come accross?
why want my ln63 surf t-case bolt straight to my ln65 box and the one out of my 97 ifs dual cab is different agiain, all have the same cast alloy housings look the same but on a closer examination are different.
there would i get a factory 2.8 turbo motor and lh drop t-case to suit?
i want to bolt a 22r into my 12r rn25, what problems will i come accross, how will i convert the front to disc brake so i can get it engineered?
whats the differance between my 100's steering box and my 80?
i cannot find any calipers to fit my 06/88-10/88 x-cab hilux 2wd, why is this such a problem, why cannot i bolt on any other hilux calipers, is there away around this?
i have a 5L and a 3L head on my garage floor, they are to heavy for me to turn over so i can only see the face. how do i tell the differance?
let me think of some more and i will be back..........that was'nt a question

My FJ40 Power Steering at idol is too heavy, its ok with a few revs on the clock and has been refurbished and an oil cooler added.
What are the possible problems i will have if i put a bigger pully on the pump to bring it up to speed sooner?

L (2.2 litre) only have one idler pulley so the shape of the covers is different. the shape, and pattern on the outer also varies between 2L/2L-T to late '89, and 2L-T-II, 3L , especially at the head end - the later motors have a taller, narrower head.NICK wrote:what is the easist way to tell the differance in L series timing covers, both inners and outers?
are you asking what models came with a 3.9? are you askking for 8" or 9.#"? some North American spec FJ60's have 3.9's, in Australia I don't know. in 8" also not sure, maybe available in a hiace van or 2WD hilux.where would i find a 3.9 diff center, what trans axle code is it and how would this relate, to same another diff center with the same trans code? what problems could i come accross?
the "trans" part of the trans/axle code relates to (not surprisingly) the TRANSmission so is not applicable to your question.
the ratio part of the axle code for 3.90:1 is "07", which is preceded by a letter - G for 8", J for 9.25", K for 9.5". the ratio code is followed by a number, usually 2,3,4 or 5. 3 and 5 are limited slip, 3 = 2 spider, 5 = 4 spider. 2 and 4 are open diffs with 2 or 4 spiders (although 4 may also be a factory locker, it is easy to tell from looking at the housing). Axle ratio code 31 is for 3.909:1 ratio. Toyota sometimes re-use codes but usually only between modes where there can be no confusion as to what the ratio is since it is not available in two different sizes. I am not aware of a different ratio assigned the '07' or '31' codes but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. sometimes a tooth count is necessary to be 100% sure. most toyota gears also have the ratio stamped onto the outside of the crownwheel.
basically because toyota is a bastard and they love nothing more than making the modifier's life a misery.why want my ln63 surf t-case bolt straight to my ln65 box and the one out of my 97 ifs dual cab is different agiain, all have the same cast alloy housings look the same but on a closer examination are different.
petrol or diesel? if I needed such things I'd call Nick, he seems to be able to get all sorts of esoteric toyota parts.there would i get a factory 2.8 turbo motor and lh drop t-case to suit?
what problems *won't* you come across? you're on your own, I don't do petrol.i want to bolt a 22r into my 12r rn25, what problems will i come accross, how will i convert the front to disc brake so i can get it engineered?
your 100's steering box is a STEERING BOX, your 80 is a TRUCKwhats the differance between my 100's steering box and my 80?
this is a 4WD forum. sell the gay 2WD and buy a 4WD. Toyota will sell you calipers for the right price.i cannot find any calipers to fit my 06/88-10/88 x-cab hilux 2wd, why is this such a problem, why cannot i bolt on any other hilux calipers, is there away around this?

if you fit a bigger pulley you run the risk of foaming the oil on the highway/at higher revs. remember it's only designed to turn 7.50/16's, anything wider than that might give it a hard time. is there any kinks or restrictions in any of your lines? any leaks? if it's getting any air into it on the low side the assistance will not be as good as it could be.
