The best way to get sound out of any car is to put in as many speakers, subs, and amps as you can fit!!

My SWB has 6" splits in the front, and a single dual voice coil sub with its own amp. I want to fit some 6x9's in somewhere else aswell, but haven't decided where yet. I will also be running the front splits and the 6x9's off my other amp.

Keep in mind that serras are tinny little $hit boxes, and you get massive reverberations through the panels, so don't expect to win any sound quality comps... ;)

Disagree 400%

buy quality and keep it simple, easy to turn a cow into hamburgers (split sound to many speakers) but try to turn hambugers back into a cow (get the sound from a heap of different speakers back to how it was recorded)

with a bit of cutting you can fit an 8inch midbass and a 5 inch mid into the kickpanels, combined with a good sub system will sound a lot better than you think.

get some stick on body deadner sheets for the tin inside the kickpanels and inside the doors and rear quarters and a few litres of brush on for both sides of the floor, if its a soft top dont bother with rear speakers, you wont hear much over the flapping.

if you are into dance, doof doof type music, think of some bass engines too, no solid roof means sub bass is hard to do well, the 'kick' from the bass engines helps to make it feel bassy.

my system pumps...
well i think so
1Xsony mp3 head unit..
4X sony 6X9's
2 in roof concole that i made
and 2 in back pannesl just near wheel well
1 X800w amp screwd to back door
1X10inch sub behinde drivers seat
i have to fade spekers to back becasues of how clocse the fornt ones are to your head...
and yes if you crank it and stand outisded you can see the pannels move in and out... so it does viabrate like a biach...
but that is when it is cranked.. and i got alot of bass.

with the sierra. it carrys alot of road noise and its very tinny so its not the best accoust designed suroundings for a stereo.

but you would want splits in the fronts in custom door pods. and deaden your door. running off a high powerd clean amp producing more rms than your splits can produce.

rear id put a 10 behind the back seats with a custom sealed enclosre or a custom enclosure after centre console ( in the middle of floor behind front seats). then have that running off a mono amp.

there are heaps off ways.

you need a budget?
what music genre you listen to mostly?
you aiming for SQ OR SPL?
and any preferances of brands and cosmetic looks

I just have 2 extra speakers behind the front seats on the wooden side bits, they have 3 speakers in each one, they drain the standard radio good too. Dunno if i want to get a better setup, money could be better spent on other things :/

One thing to remember is the cheaper and easier you put it in the easier it is too take out by someone else :bad-words:

Under the dash is better for visability from outside and sounds ok. Maybe do a small angled plate from below to angle the speakers up towards the seats. in the doors is ok but very thin doors and very echo'y.

Think also where u drive and water crossings and such.

My old system was 6x9s in rear side panels. 6" splits in front under dash and 2x8" subs in rear door in custom panel.

Now only got the splits and 6x9s. although splits are rooted x1 from water lapping inside them

cheers

all a car needs is good front staging. if you get good (read 2 way or component splits over 180) speakers then all you need in the back it a bit of noise. i ran pioneer components in the front and some cheap panasonics in the rear with a 12 inch pioneer.....all in a civic.

what im saying is that the magor sound you hear is in the front (where your ears face) your best option would be to run high quality front with some 6000000000000way speakers in the back with a cheap amp for the sub (all it needs to do is move the sub coil, doesnt need to be an alpine V12 top of the line with multimedia manager) and itll be a good stereo.

if, for some strange reason (quite a few people do) want to build a top notch sound system and SQ to the world, then sound mat is your mate.

P.S. jaycar have really really good products for less than you would expect. give it a shot, ask most sound places who dont plug gear and they will say that jaycar are good.

wow that was huge.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

Heya bud,
T'was a nice dark night parked on a busy road, I was inside one of melbournes lurvly nightspots until the weee hours of the morning, only to come back to my doors ajar and the doorlocks had been tampered wih by the business end of a large screwdriver. Locks on suzi's are for honest people and you should consider this before investing good money into your sound system... Either have and alarm to deter theives or conceiel what you can to make it less obvious. Even though mine was well covered/camoflauged- thieves can hear large noises too and unortunatley see your pride and joy parked when you're no where to be seen and borrow without asking, and of course- with no intention of returning it to you... Sound is way cool- just be wary dude! :bad-words:
