3L LN106 Rocker Cover question

Post by LuxyBoy »

I am looking at putting a top mount intercooler in the above mentioned vehicle; however i do not want to remove the intercooler every 5000k to change the oil.
Can i just spin the rocker cover?
Any other ideas apart from a front mount intercooler?

Also my mate has a 96' model of the same engine and it has a temp guard ontop of it; What year did they start/stop doing this so i know what to ask the wreckers for?
Kind Regards,
Brad

Is that thing a temperature guard? I took it off ages ago cause if I spilt any oil it would soak into the foamy crap on the under side of it.

I'm not sure about reversing the rocker cover, but the filler cap isn't that far off centre anyway is it?? With my DTS turbo, the pipe from the turbo to the inlet manifold runs just in front of the filler cap and I'm looking at possibly using a GU (I think) intercooler for it, but 2 hose clamps is a small inconvenience to remove it.

Or you top the oil up through the dip stick hole

PS: I got quoted $450 for a second hand GU intercooler at the local 4x4 wreckers

intercooler

Hay Phippsy,

I spoke to you when i first got the lux and looked at doing this, but decided the cost was too much. However i now have a cheap turbo CT20 and am getting cheap intercooler from an R33 Skyline. Adding the Surf airbox and dual battery with the hiace upwards facing intake manifold; also the nissan or hyundai scoop and a custom snorkel (Got my work cut out for me). The intercooler needs to be around about where the filler cap is for the hole in the bonnet to mount the scoop without cutting a main cross member on the bonnet.

Now you see my dilema :(
Dip stick filling is a good idea though just take a while
Thanks Phippsy

R33 intercooler $50

hmmm, hiace intake manifold you say, could help make things a bit neater/easier to work with in the engine bay. The the hiace come out with the same engine but a different manifold??

I think you will find that the Hiace intake manifold is very similar to the 2.4 turbo surf intake manifold the intake hole facing upwards rather than sideways as the standard 3L manifold faces..

Manifold

Post by LuxyBoy »

Whitenight is correct we both saw it at the wreckers on a hiace and a mates surf, same thing different car. Only real difference is the accelerator cable moves closer to the firewall, oh and the intake points upwards making for a much neater engine bay :)

Yeah sounds like a good as the alloy tube that came with my DTS kit has a really tight 180' bend to meet the intake and rubs on the power steering lines from the reservoir.
