G'day guys,
I've got an 88rr that has about a 60mm spring lift i've fitted rockcrawler shocks up front that are ment to be longer than standard (i don't see it). But at the rear im running standard Bilsteins that came with the car. At full travel in the rear i can see the shock reaching it's limit. Whats a cheap way to improve suspension travel? change the position of the shock? i have a set of GU rear shocks should i fit them? How about the brake lines can you lengthen them without buying new ones?

88' rangie, 2inch spring lift 1inch body. snorkel Front Air locker Rear Maxi Drive locker, 265/75 BFG mud few other mods.
Check the length of the patrol shock. If the Bilstein is longer, then don't bother. If not, then get a pin to eye adaptor and throw the patrol shock in. Your brake lines should not need lengthening with 60mm lift, but if they are straining at full tilt, you just need them extended. No big deal. You can move the top shock mount down (have to drill new holes) but just make sure that the up-travel is within the range for the shock. Could be messy otherwise.

Your GU shock is going to be quite a bit too long unless you tie in your coil. Maybe limitind straps. It will cost you about $65 for the pin to eye adapter and you will gain about 30mm in length.
For the front, you really need a standard length 80 series. Not your aftermarket shocks for they will be too long.
I can supply standard height cruiser front if you are interested. (About $100 Each for KYB)

You could go one step further and use 80 series shocks front and rear All you have to do is weld an eye mount onto the end of the shock and fit her up...then have someone make you a set of dislocation cones and watch your arse end flex like stretch man from Fantastic 4.

Actually just on the topic if my suspenioni is 60mm higher can i just lower the rear shocks by 60mm? how can i be sure that i wont make the rear shocks turn into a credit cards on full articulaton?

What some guys do in the front is throw in the cruiser front shocks and put a spacer or spacers where your shock tower bolts together. If you don't do this you will over compress your shock when your flexin or when you hit a bump hard.
As for the break lines as far as I know the best thing you can do is replace them with new ones. So pull off one of your break lines and take it to a break specialist and ask them to make up some longer ones. 4 for the front and one for the rear. I am sure there is a thread somewhere explaining this if you don't already know how to bleed them.
If you keep those GU shocks, make sure you make up some really long dislocating cones. If you decide not to go with your other ideas then:

I will give extended lengths. These are eye top pin bottom.

go to trailer parts supply or supercheap ect.
Get spring hangers $6-9 each.
then drill hole in base for bolting to existing pin hole.

You mean something like this ?
So you flip that over so the pin can head through and drill mounting holes
it the other surface so they can bolt onto the chassis, are they going to be strong enough and give you the right location for shock, I guess you just lie them back a and over a bit to suit .

once that hole is drilled it wil bolt onto the existing shock mount same as buying a $40.00 set of 2.
It will just fit.
Hanger is aprox 50mm inside.
Only needs on hole where red is if fiting to Rear RR lower.

I am pretty sure that is why HI JACK had to weld an eye to the pin on the top of the shock.
The adaptor that you are referring to, Michael, is for mounting on the axel housing, isn't it? That would work for the patrol shock, but not the 80 series. Your design would be better than the 4b shop ones...I am yet to see one that didn't need to be bashed to make the shock fit

in the rangie i run 4'' cruiser coils, and aftermarket gq shockies with the pin to eye conversions on the rear, the flex is huge and clears the 38, then theres 100 mm cone top and bottom. after that if we get serious we disconnect the shockies and 8mm chain runs up the inside of the coils as a limiter which adds another 120 mm more drop after the shock.
however i advise that if you are going to big travel the rear upper control arm bush may flog out running at such hard angles, in mine i bent chassis mount any way so i cut them off then i welded the matching lower bush with the eye to the upper arm then plated both sides of the chassis with 10mm and just run a 8'' spigot bolt right threw the chassis which now allows techiqally 360 deg movement with out the bush squeezing its arse out

Just changed the shock position by 2inches and using heavy duty cable ties to hold the springs in place. thanks for the help i'm really happy with the articulation improvment it means i don't need the maxi as often.
