Quick hilux gearbox question

Post by ausyota »

OK a mate and I are in the process of puting new bearings in my lux 5speed.
Does the bearing on the front input shaft need a seal on the front side or not?
One pic in a book looks like it has the seal on the bearing but a pic in a different repair book shows it without a seal.
We were thinking that it doesnt need a seal as it has a cover plate thing over it.
Has anyone out there in internet land know an answer?
thanks
Paul.

It should have a seal in the throw out bearing carier/bearing retainer.
It shouldnt need a sealed bearing fitted or it would only get lube from what ever grease you put in it to start with.

Thanks.
Yeah thats what I thought.
A few of the bearings in the kit came with seals attached and we have been pulling them off before fitting.
Its just that it looked as though it was on in one pic (in the Gregories manual I think).
