Best Simex Tyre for Sydney Trails.
What Simex tyre is best for the trails around sydney? Looking at 33 -34 inch sizes? Or are they no good on our rocks?
we've got some sharp rock up here in qld around ormeau at the waterfall track and I noticed my jt2's (33x10.5r15) get sliced up quite a bit.. so much so I prefer not to run that particular track too often... not to say they dont perform.. you just want a budget to match if you dont mind slicing them up every 2nd weekend.
ive got some half chunks out of 2 and an outerlug missing on another. have run them a bit on the road too now and they are wearing ok.. say 5-7000kms on them so far.. with the wear they are getting louder on road but you just turn the tunes up louder.

So many to pick froom
Simex's were really designed for Mud though the JT2 I have 34x10.5x15 perform well on either, they do cut up on rocks, though that does depend I guess on how you drive My second set have lasted far better since the twin air lockers were fitted.
If it was me how ever and I intended to do more rock crawling rather than mud I would go for the BFG Crawler they seem far more suited to that kind of terain. Maybe even a BFG MTR if it's dry most of the time. If your intending to do plenty of rocks a good thick side wall is somthing to look out for too, saves on punchers. It,s a hard one to put your finger on which tyre to use, terrain and climate and how offten are the key ingredents and of course budget.

Re: Best Simex Tyre for Sydney Trails.
Im pretty sure 99% of people here use or want MT/Rs because sydney's tracks are basically all rock.sir_camel wrote:What Simex tyre is best for the trails around sydney? Looking at 33 -34 inch sizes? Or are they no good on our rocks?
As for simex's, i believe the trekkers are the go, especially when the rock is wet. Other people may have different opinions of course.

i currently am running 33 MTR's and had a set of 31's before hand. Am just about to do a whole new suspension set up and was thinking of running MTRS or Radial Claws as my onraod and light offroad work tyre and was thinking of JTII's as a hardcore tyre to run with beadlocks as i didnt really want to go any bigger than 34. The more i think about it tho they arn't really ideal for sydney tracks. Still thinking. Thanks so far though guys

i run 32 x 9.5 r15 extreme treckers, ive run them on most of the tracks around sydney, i reckon they are a great tyre, but you have to run low pressures to get them to flex and work well, ive found on my GQ they work well at 10-12psi, on my lighter hilux i had to run them at 6-8psi, im very happy with them and when i fit my bigger lift and reduction gears to the GQ i plan to buy another set of 35s or 36s
With the second airs I run with my current JT2's at 8psi int he front and 6psi in the rear. they mould to anything at these settings.sir_camel wrote:yea the plan is to run them real low with beadlocks if i go down this path.
