G'day all
I'm new to forum, new to 4wd'ing.
I have a Suzuki x90, 1997, 4x4, 1.6ltr, stock.
i live in Proserpine, N-Qld, looking for somewere to drive?
i would like to lift the suspension 2"? ( is it legal?)
can anyone tell me were to get the parts at low cost?

x90's are basically a vitara with a different body, so if you want a 2 inch lift, check out the old man emu kit

some guys have made their own kits up by getting custom springs and flipping the upper strut mount on the front, so there's a few ways it can be done

I would like to put some bigger wheels on Cooper Discoverer Sure Trac (S/T) 235/75R15 can anyone help with info on fitting tires on stock rims?
do I have to lift the body to fit then under?
But Bear is my road car as well as a off road 4wd.
I plan to get 4 new coils and rear shocks as soon as i get the money.
would you know if i will need any other parts to do this lift?

I got 2" king's springs on my Vitara but they're a little rough - too stiff. Great off road but not much good on a mainly road car.
Might be better off to get your springs reset higher by pedders or similar. I'll sell you mine if you like and I'll go to pedders
Suzisport do a body lift kit, but doing a body lift at home on Vitara's and X90's is hard work if you dont know what you're doing - too many things have car-like tolerances and need modifying if you wanna do the job right and/or go more than 1" up.
If you're not fully kitted up in your garage or keen on a little harmless butchery then pay someone.
If you don't mind the butchery (Hey my Vitara was cheap) then you can make your own 1" lift kit for probably $80 or so.
You should be able to run 235/75 A/T's either with a little body or suspension lift - otherwise they will rub a little bit. Shouldn't do any harm to your on road ability. You can get muddies in that size and they're a little worse on road but heaps better off.
your front struts can cope with a bit of lift ok - my aftermarket 1" lift ones are actually the same length as the originals and cope fine with the 2" lift, but the back shocks need urgent replacement for any offroad use, and will pretty much be topped out after the spring lift. Luckily they're pretty universal (I've used HQ shocks, Landcruiser and Cressida). For something more valuable like yours maybe some Rancho or Dobinsons.......

You can fit the 235's on stock rims (5.5") with lifted shocks or body lift. Or you can buy my 30" muddies with 7" wide sunraysias so I can get the angle grinder out and fit 32" on F100 rims.........
If you wanna send me a slab of piss or at the very worst postage back to you, you can have my first dodgy home lift springs (in some ways I think it better than Kings springs) - Datsun 1200 Sedan Rear springs (slightly soft), Datsun 180B rear non SSS Springs cut to length on front (slightly hard) and HQ rear shocks - 2" longer than stock but not long enuff for my rockcrawling.
The Datsun rears were slightly to soft offroad and on, but the Kings springs are way too hard anywhere....
If you cut a little more off with an angle grinder off the front springs they'd be damn near perfect.....
PS you have no idea how many cars I had to pull springs out of at the wreckers to find a set this good.....

The 1" body lift was based on some blocks cut by Aus4wd specialist in Kilsyth Vic. I got 2" blocks cut but seing the welded in studs cut any chance of that fitting without major dramas, so I took it back and they generously swapped it for a set of 1" blocks.
Even the 1" was a bastard on the standard studs - I had to lose the bottom rubber isolators. Additionally it interfered with the plastic crap over the bumper at the back, gearshift levers, fuel filler etc. All of these required modifying or else swearing and putting up with things not being right.
You'd probably make free half inch or so lift kit by just putting your bottom rubber isolator in with the top one, with less grief. If you're just running a little short on tyre clearance, do that.
Vitaras would have to be quite possibly the biggest bastard to do body lift on. The only good thing is that the radiator is chassis mounted so that doesn't need any "treatment".
You can buy 2" or 3" kits, and there's usually not much difference in price in the kit - the price is in aggravation at things like the brake line swaps, gearshift lever modding, steering and driveshaft extenders, brake reservior colliding with air filter etc.

we've got a vitara that's been lifted in the suzuki club and the guy that did it reckoned it was way easier than a sierra. i guess it's all about preparation

I paid about $700 for the 4 mud tyres without the rims, so I'd want a little less than that including the rims (new rims would be about another $200-250 on top of it). I dunno exactly how much it will cost you to send them up to you, which might be more of a prohibiting factor. I think I've only had them on for about 2000k's at the most, so they're damn near new. About $900 worth and say $600 for them all up.
I'll find out how much a new set is gonna be in 32"s including the rims.
However you won't fit the 30" muddies without a significant lift - I'm running 2" suspension and 1" body lift to clear them. And they still rub a little bit on the seam welds at the front under suspension movement.
235's are more sensible but 30"s are much tougher looking.....

Might also be which spec and model vitara you're working on. I can only go off my 88 JX softtop, versus other non Suzuki 4wd's which have all been much easier. Other Vitara models and specs had changes to bumpers, engines etc, so what I faced may not be the same as what he faced.
Overall it wasn't too hard for anyone who knows one end of the spanner from the other but there was such mindless design when my JX was built - I guess noone at Suzuki thought they'd end up being changed into a big wheeled mud monster....
My biggest problems were all caused by my bumpers being mounted both to body and chassis at both ends. If your Vitara or X90 doesn't have this design quirk, you're on a good thing.
PS what preparation? You don't need no stinking preparation. Except for some body blocks and a trolley jack.....
