Ive just picked up a Landrover 88in series 2A , was free to good home.
my problem is how to work out what year model it is.
The badge has Chassis No 243159836
another badge Pressmetal Corp Body No LRS 13527 and Ser No 8813527.
Thats it, i havent owned a Landy befor so any help would be appreaciated.

Landy year model from body number ?

Off the top of my head 243 means about 1966-69. Mine 68 IIA is also 243. Is there a suffix "D" on the end of the number??? That might narrow it down. There are some lists somewhere on the web but I don't think they are too accurate for the OZ models.
If you want to check the chassis number is the same as on the plate, it is on the LHS rear. Stick your head under behind the rear wheel and you should be able to see it (after scraping some paint off).
The badge from pressed metal corp means the body was built by them in OZ. Is it a military model???

We have 242 series down here (from around '61/'62) Export RHD;
the corresponding CKD rhd export kits from same period commences at
243....
( 241 is home market RHD, 244 is export LHD & 245 is export CKD..)

Theres no D on the badge, but when i checked the badge i found that it has a G at the end not a 6, havn't checked the chassis yet, didnt know where to look. Its also got 4 head lights, 2 on the gaurds and 2 between the gaurds.
Guess that it might be military model but not sure by the green original paint under the seats, can you tell by paint colour.

The military models have cut front guards from the factory - but sounds like you have Series 3 guards fitted (hence the 4 headlights). Military models usually have camo paint, and have longer spring shackles with a bolt through the middle.petah from oz wrote:Thanks ISUZUROVER

There are other ways to tell the year (roughly):
Are the wipers individual units that pass through the bottom of the windscreen (then '67 or earlier)?
Or are they run by a single motor in the dash with worm drive to the wiper units - with the wiper units passing through the top of the firewall? ('67 or later)
Are the vents operated by a screw knob or a knob that moves up and down a ratchet?
Does it have a hand throttle - if so is it below the centre of the dash or in the dash to the left of the instrument panel.
EDIT...
If it is a G suffix chassis (check on the chassis) then it should be a reasonable late model - let me know the answers to the above.

Dosnt have the longer spring shackles.
Does have a single motor in the dash with worm drive to the wiper units.

Sounds about right then:
If all those bits are original and it has a suffix G chassis then it sounds like a 1969-1971 model. Basically the last of the IIA's.
That was the time the headlights moved to the guards (about 1970 in OZ), so either yours may have the original guards and an early model radiator panel (they are reasonably rust-prone), or it was one of the last models with the lights in the centre and someone fitted later guards.
Maybe see which set of wiring looks more factory. Could also check engine and gearbox numbers too.
