My gasket went and didn't take out the head but mine is not on gas. On gas they seem to take out the gasket and head. Mine had no other damage other than the gasket. While the head was off I had the valve stem seals etc. replaced as it was starting to blow some smoke.
Is your overflow bottle filling up?

its carb and not on gas
just a little left of insanity :)
Bilby, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Some cars have head gasket issues, some don't. My efi 92 GQ has done 270,000 kms the last 160,000 kms on LPG. All the doomsayers about LPG don't run it. The money saved on LPG will pay for any possible repairs down the track many times over.
I'm not anticipating any head gasket problems, but if it happens I'll just get it fixed. Hopefully I'd have a V8 conversion done before any potential problems occur just for a better tow vehicle.
TB42's are basically identical to TD42 diesels and are usually very reliable, I've seen petrol TB42's with over 400,000 kms on them at the workshop next door to us.
Regards Andrew.

Seen a mag article about a SWB Mav that had well over 1.5 million km's on it and they say they had spent bugger all on it. It was one of those lead cars (or whatever they are called) for oversize loads. So most where highways k's as it was a WA car that used to do trips to darwin tp perth.
But then again it could have been like that got axe that dad has had for 30 years with no issuse. Except for the 5 heads and 10 handles.
