Good stuff Dave, you did away with the dirty old warn!!!

I really like my PTO. I reckon they would be awesome with plasma cable on them, i have seriouse issues with the way my steel cable refuses to spool on properly under load. Plasma cable doesn't matter.

I'm seriously looking into plasma rope, mainly because I feel it is safer, and no problems with crushing, but I don't use the winch much.

Can get it for under $6/m for 8mm, so will probably give it a go and keep the steel cable in the back for back up. Will also get a cover for the winch to avoid uv damage and crap when not in use.

Yup, it is. The centre shaft has a set of splines on the end just like your front axle, with free wheel hub system to engage / disengage. The problem is, they are not able to be disengaged when it is under load....changing the engagment system to something like an air operated diff locker would be great.

Thats a much better system than what mine is. Mine is an aftermarket winch. Which uses a lever to engage the drum. So theres only probaly two spot on the drum it will engage.

Lever operated like Toyota Landcruiser PTO winch with a coarse dog gear on the end for engagement??

Thats not too bad compared to the standard Nissan one, as it easily allows you to set up an air-ram to move the lever (operated from inside the cab), so you can throw it into freespool while your co-driver is still getting out of the truck, then engage it again without him having to run back to the truck to do it. Will atke some pics of a mates 70 series L/C with that setup.

We're going for the dog-gear engagement (air-ram operated) on our PTO, as we're extending the drum for more capacity, so need a longer centre shaft anyway. Running out of time and money to do anything else.

mmm never thought of that. Keen to see some pics and costing when you guys get this setup.
As even though I dont do comps its hard explaining to people, how to engage it. Well it seems hard, to me its easy. And this way it would be much easier to just get them to feed the cable out while I flick the switch.
