7x10" speaker placement in rear of 80 series

Post by Trusa »

Has anyone put 7x10's or 6x9's in the rear of an 80? I don't wanna box them, I want them in the panels.

Anyone done it, if so where did you put them?

Thanks,

Ben

6X9's

Post by Toy80Diesel »

There is heaps of room in those side panels for speakers, I have a couple amps in the driver's side and some spare bits (fan belts etc) in the left hand side. But I wouldn't put the speakers in there, mainly coz if the speakers are pointing towards each other without anything between, they cancel each other out. In other words it affects the sound dramatically.
I would make speaker pods that point them slightly forward and up. Although if you still wanna use the rear (third row) seats you may have problems there.

I've stuck with the doors as did a friend of mine and we have had good results. But we didn't use 6X9's, we used splits. Tailgate seems like a good spot (bottom section) but then limits loadin/unloading the car and you might damage them. Have seen a box that was roof mounted with the speakers facing downwards, this went across the rear of the car with the amp flush mounted between the two speakers.

you can see here where i mounted my 6x9s, the panels are easily removed and you can pick your spot, plenty of room there!!

Timbocruise, I have lined up the 7x10 where your drivers side 6x9 is and it is going to interfere with the seatbelt retractor mounting panel.

Passengers side is sorted and will be mounted further back than the drivers side will be so no canceling out (speaker placement 101), it just means you can't fold the seat up without just touching the speaker (slight implications for speaker grill).

Guess I've got 2 options. 1: make up spacers to clear the seatbelt mounting OR 2: go 6x9's instead. I know I can fit them in where Timbocruise has his no worries.

I prefer flush mounted speakers so would prefer not to space them.

There will be no boxing from the roof etc. I just don't wanna go there.

thanks for your input,

Ben

FWIW I have these pics of 60 with speakers in the rear. I recon the checkerplate with speakers looks unreal! i know there not 80's but you get the idea!
