Long Range Fuel Tank Sender / Gauge Calibration

Post by JK »

I bought my GQ with a 145L long ranger tank fitted. Sweet.

The fuel sender is not calibrated for the size of the tank so when the gauge says full, the tank still has another 30 to 40L in it over the full mark.

Also, I know I can get a good 200ks out of the tank after the gauge says empty so there is at least 25 to 30L still in there at empty.

Has anyone recalibrated the gauge with their long range tank so that full and empty on the gauge mean full and empty in the tank?

You need to modify the sender or maybe your sender is buggered. I had a similar problem and a new sender fixed it.

from what i have seen, the float on the fuel sender gets cut off, and the arm extended, if you talk to ARB, theyd be able to give you some idea of whats involved,

maybe you can get an exchange sender through a tank company,

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll look into getting the sender modified.

It really looks like it needs more travel due to the deeper than stock fuel tank.

They can be calibrated... but as per usual, I got used to ours and know how much is left in the tank by how long the needle has stayed around any particular position in its arc on the gauge. It'd freak me out if I actually KNEW what was left in the tank....

When fitted, the float arm should have been cut and extended as mentioned above - just got one in mine, slill yet to run it empty and see the guage move though. Should stay full for a few 100km then read true all the way to empty... in an ideal world anyway.

When I fitted mine the instructions said just to straigten it out abit. So now I get 180km before it comes down past the F mark. And probably 100km past E.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
