guys,
Got a holden V8 with Impco 300a comverter and mixer ontop of the 4 barrel carbi.....
i want to make or buy or get made, something i can seal the filter off and run a pipe out the side so i can plug a pipe into it over to a snorkel.
Impco does one of these, buts its plastic and about $170.00 and isnt a perfect seal....
was wondering how you guys would do it...

Step 1:
Get ya ass down to the local roads depot and secure a alloy road sign...
IE: a stop sign or similar in size thats been used and been replaced.
( they have plenty of old ones layin around .... just gotta ask )
Step 2:
hunt around a few of the " St vinnys, ex army , nicknack shops for a "BOILERS POT".
These pots are usually alloy these days but there are still a few steel ones around. The pots usually measure up at 350mm across the base and are around the 200mm high.
Step 3:
buy some rubber that will act as a SEAL between the base and the top cover....... Clark rubber have the stuff, its around 3mm thick and 20mm wide
Step 4:
using a JIGSAW cut a hole in the stop sign that is just large enough to sit on the alloy part of the mixer where the aircleaner usually sits. Then cut it again in a LARGER diameter so its around 3mm larger than the BOILERS POT.
You should now have a round disk with a big hole in da middle.
URATHANE this disk to the alloy base of the mixer.
Step 5:
dulpicate the top steel cover plate holes onto the boilers pot base..... drill and use a jigsaw to complete the duplication.
Measure the distance from the top of the mixer to the top of the alloy ring you have just made ( should be around the same as the aircleaners height ) then with the jigsaw cut around the outer sides of the boilers pot.
The pot should now slip over the top of the mixer and be bolted down and there should be ( pending on your accuracy ) a small gap between the sides of the pot and the ring you made ealier.
NOW fit the rubber you bought ealier to the new base and glue it in place using URATHANE.
The top and base should now SEAL UP FULLY.
Step 6:
Grab an old SD33 aircleaner and cut the bit which mormally receives the flexy hose from the snorkle.....
REMEMBER to leave atleast 10mm of the actual aircleaner on the thing so you can POPRIVERT & URATHANE this "spout" to you new boilers pot aircleaner.
Step 7:
fit snorkle hose.
NB:
USE URATHANE ...................... NOT SILICONE !

try a wreckers for a filter housing off a carby gq that had an impco system fitted, they had a steel filter housing much like a holden V8 housing that is enclosed with just an inlet to hook up to the original intake hose.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

ill ring around some wreckers and see if i can track one down.
my GQ hasnt got an impco system on it, its a different gas setup, and runs the stock intake setup.....
