pro comp x-terains vs radial claw
what the go both have similar tread patern wich behaves better offroad and on road advice and opinions please, cos these r the tyres i'm looking at in a 33x12.5x15 size.

I got 35" claws great all round tyre. Quite on the road shocking on gravel no traction at all which is good for side ways action. Done between 13 000 & 15 000 on them still in good nick besides a few cuts.

I have 35" claws now and they just replaced my 35" pro comps
similar on road (great)
similar noise (bearable)
similar on gravel (good)
mud (claws WAY better)
rock (claws way beter)
wear rate (pro comps wern't good don't know about the claws yet)
side walls ( both tough but AIR DOWN!!)
resistance to chipping and lug tearing. (pro comps were good, claws average)
Overall I think the claws are better value though go the 35's if you can fit them and if they won't fit MAKE THEM!!!

measuring actual tread depth maybe an interesting exercise.. Xterrains never look to me to have much tread (depth of tread) and thats when new...

go the claws. i've heard xterrians last a bit longer but claws are better in every respect.

yeh from what i've heard u guys r right in most aspects there exept i got a mate who had 35 x_terains they lasted about 70 000km on road where as the claws i'd expect to get around 30-45 k out of em

i got 33" claws. Im pretty sure you will get more than that. (i hope) i know someone with em on another gu and they have done 50-55 and he's still got them on there. (and no, they aren't bald)

not really.... claw radials....
on a heavier truck the mentioned amount of ks would be about right..
on a lighter truck they can and do last up to 80,000 ks...

um a manufactures guidance of 90% off 10% on doesnt make it a comp tyre.!!!
All they are doing is trying to inform customers who really dont know much about 4x4 tyres which tyre is right for them. They are saying if you spend 90% of your time off the road then you would be happy with the comprimise an aggressive tyre is on road. They are not saying if you spend more than 10% on road it is going to be a problem. They simply are protecting themselves from so bloke who has no idea buying them then complaining they are noisy or dont grip as well on wet roads as his HT tyres did. Those who really are after these tyres dont fall into that catorgry.
The % of on and off road are really aimed at buys in mostly on road balnace those in the higher % off road normally know what they want anyway and take no notice of this % figure anyway

Mickey Thompson Claws come in to different tyres of construction.
The first tyre is what’s call Biased Belted. What this means is the body plies are at an angle so they cross over each other. Rags or cross ply tyres share this type of construction eg simex/ most swampers this make for a very strong tyre for off road use but isn't crash hot for road use. In the case of the Baja Claw there are 4 of these body plies with 2 of the plies continuing back down to the shoulder of the tyre to give a total of 6 plies in the side walls. What makes the claw different to other cross plies is that they also have to fibre glass radial belts, this gives the tyre extra strength in the tread area a stability at speed. The down side of cross ply and Bias ply is that their on road manners aren’t that good and tread life is limited because they run hot.
The second type is called radial construction. Radial construction usually has 1, 2 or 3 body plies running at right angles to the bead with 2 steel belts running radially around the tread. This will give better on road manners and increased tread life. Most brands are constucrted like this eg Pro comp, BFG, Goodyear.
so if you are planning to drive mainly off road and play hard go with the Baja Claw but if it is your daily driver and still want good on road manners and great off road ability go the radial claw.
by the way i have used both types of claws ans IMO the Radial claw is a great all round tyre.

i think u have convinced me to go claws plus there prety cheep for a 33 bout same as bfg mud i just hope there heeps better than those
