2.8 Lux turbo kit - Coolant/Oil plumbing Q?
I have just bought a second hand turbo kit for the lux that came off a 2.4 (aftermarket kit not factory) and it was running an oil cooler.
The oil cooler didnt come with the rest of the stuff but I do have the adaptor for the filter that has the oil lines for the cooler.
My questions are
1. does the 2.8 need an aditional oil cooler with a turbo?
2. the oil cooler adaptor has the oil feed for the turbo plumbed into it should I use that and block off the oil cooler lines (if not running cooler) or is there an easier way?
3. The oil cooler adaptor takes a smaller (and prob more expensive) Z418 filter instead of the good ol Z9 is this a potential problem?
4. Whats an oil cooler worth anyway? and seing how as I allready have the adaptor plate should I just buy one?

I have a dts turbo on my 2.8, no oil cooler, oil feed is from the line that feeds the alternator and the drain piggy backs off the the same drain from the alternator. Have fitted a remote oil filter kit so it's not such a pain to change and it kept with the z9.

I run a Garret system, (AXT turbo) when I had a previous Hilux which had a turbo fitted I had overheating probs until a mate who worked for Dynamic Turbo told me to remove the oil cooler (Which was positioned in front of the radiator), after removing the oil cooler I have had no more overheating probs. I've been running the same turbo system on my current Hilux without any oil cooler for 10 Years & haven't had overheating probs or any other probs.

How is the line atached to the alternator oil feed?
Also where dose your line for the coolant feed from?
I have the water and oil drain lines sorted just need to suss out the feeds.

The third pic is the water feed to the turbo, bit messy but it's there.
Second pic is the water return on the heater hose.
First pic is a bit dodgy, the camera didn't like working under the lux, but the main hose is the turbo oil drain with the alternator drain out the top side and at the top of pic you can just see the oil feeder.

This turbo project is one the things I have been stuffing around with for a while (more important stuff has been coming first) and Im only just getting round to fitting it up .
Is there any reason I cant just tap into both heater lines at the turbo for the coolant feed and return lines like in the pic I chopped below?
Just seems like the easiest and neatest way to plumb them up.

my 2H has a similar thing like that but it actually goes through to the water jacket

Im doing -
Lux- SAS, turbo, tray, dual transfers, trac bar, rears in front, custom rear leaves, hi steer, widetrack kit, tube front bar, GPS carputer set up, extra gauges, front locker, OBA with tank, bigger alternator, 6 lightforce lights and dual battery set up.
Zook- Transfer gears, rear locker, tube front bar, lightforce lights, tube rear bar, sliders, roll bar, rears up front, snorkel, extractors and exhaust and possibly EFI and supercharger.
So with a 5 1/2 day a week job I only get 1 1/2 days a week to do all that stuff
So you reckon that will work OK with the two heater lines.
It just seems the easist way. You would think the turbo kit makers would do it that way.
They are allready tapping into one of them why send the other line all the way over to the other side?

I have fitted it up but not actually driven it yet
My long range fuel tank and tray are chopped up at the moment. Im lifting the tank about 3 or 4inches so its between the chasi rails.
But yes behind that bung is oil, I spoze its high pressure, it does come out the side of the oilcooler housing.
I just got all the bits I needed from my work (I work at a place that does hydraulics).
