roof racks holden frontera 2002

Post by frontera2002 »

hi guys,
has anyone fitted the factory roof rack system to a frontera that didnt come out with them?
i bought a second hand set off the wreckers as holden wanted something like 1300 dollars got them for 75.

Is it a big job to pull down the hood linimg as holden reckon that there are captive nuts under the roof skin.
i thought about drilling thu the captive nut from underneath thru the roof so i got the exact pos to make a 10mm hole thru the roof for the bolts...

anyone done a similar job?

thanks

Hi Jason,

I have a 2000 UES S and thought I'd do the same. Even aquired a set from a wrecker, but gave up. Your right. They require captive nuts that are built into the roof lining on the SE only. Not only that, I was told that there is additional reinforcement for the mounts as well built in. So even if I was prepared to drill the 8 x 10mm holes, it was only going to be cosmetic if I didn't strengthen the mounts some how. The alternative is a couple of Rola bars which you can mount a cage on, or a poor Rola copy of the original which rivets a couple of tracks on the roof and has two slide bars. Not rated to carry much and is narrow.

Wayne,
i have looked peeled back the roof lining at the rear and there is the bolts for it just wondering how hard it is to take the roof lining out and then put it back without stuffing it or having rattles after the job!

There are? Damn it. That info came from a Holden person who warned me when I started looking at the lining. So no I never bothered getting the lining off after that.

But if the bolts are there I would probably in hindsight now get a quote from a panel beater to do the job. They would better understand how to remove the trim, accurately drill and finish the holes and fit the rack.

They are there? :x
