Ideas, anyone?

Post by the_trol »

Hey all,

I have a mq with 4.1 ford crossflow under the bonnet. It has been off the road for several months now due to problem with the clutch. what is happing is it starts fine out of gear, but put your foot on the clutch and try to select a gear and it will not go into any gear. Turn off and select gear put foot on clutch and turn over and she jumps forwards with a sound like ball bearings rattling insde the gear box. Start her in gear and take off she will go up the gears fine but as soon as you pull it out of fourth to come back down it will go not go back into any gear. I ahve replaced both the master and slave cylinders with new ones. When replacing master the metal pipe that runs to the slave snapped off and i replaced it with a little bit longer one could this be the prob or something else? I have run out of ideas  . It would be great help if someone could give me some hints as i am getting rather pissed not having a 4wd.

Thanks in advance.

ps sorry about the long post.

sounds more like something gone haywire in the clutch itself

throwout bearing, broken pressure plate fingers ??

could be a few different things
just a little left of insanity :)

sounds like air in the hydraulic clutch lines...

the length of the pipe wont affect it.... if its bled properly, then its definatly a PULL THE GEARBOX OUT job and youll have to change the clutch...

screwy

does the (ball bearing) noise start all the time, foot half way down on the cllutch,or fully depressed? is there any air in the hydrolic lines?do you know if pull or push type?it could be any thing from a leaky rear main causing the cluct to stick, diaphram fingers worn not pushing the release bearing away, something wrong with slave eg.internal leakage.seized spigot bearing,As a rule of thumb if the car can go into a gear that a syncro is in eg 1st,2nd,3rd ect but usually if its non syncro like revers and it grinds going in,its defenantly internal.(clutch)
sorry bout the bad news but as you asked for help i hope i have assisted!

thanks for all the replys guys.

you have all confirmed what i thought it is time for a new clutch  . Do any of you guys know of somwhere in Melb that does a clutch kit for a reasonable price? Also the guy i bought it off has a very large breather hose going into the clutch housing because it heats up to much in traffic. would it be best to get a heavy duty clutch to try to elivate this problem? As I beleive that is what has killed the clutch when i dropped into a river the breather hose filled with water thus filling the clutch housing as well.

Thanks again for the help guys
