Are all sierras this way?

So far I've owned two Sierra's, they've both had what looks to me like vacuum leaks, at least they're what the symptoms are. Basically at idle, it oscillates up and down, maybe at a 100 rpm margin, constantly and unpredictably (without a pattern). The reason it's a problem now is that I've put a new engine and a half recoed carbie in, and it's doing the same thing. I wanna get it running nice and smoothly.

Does everyone here have the same problem? If so what are the common causes of it.

Also, theres a whole bunch of hoses everywhere, is there a book or something that I can use to find out what each of them does. It's hard to fix a problem if you don't know what the stuff does.

Get a Chilterns Suzuki manual.
Normally advertised on Ebay. Will tell you what everything is for and all the appropriate service information, part numbers, pictures and assemby/disassembly instructions.

don't know about chilton but the haynes one is rubish, very vague compared to my Factory service manual. it basicaly gave a tear down of a 1.3l and said hey vitara's and sj410 are the same.

sure the are things that are closely related but a Sj410 engine bay is pretty different as far as lay out ... let alone the obvious stuff when it comes to a Vit.. (8v or 16v? lwb or swb? supension?)

if your on dial up waste the day downlading the manual, or better yet save a few pennies and buy the real thing

Wow!, 3 posts in a row, thats really something. You reckon I can download it? Do you know from where? I'd probably rather spend the time downloading it cause money is a factor. I'm tight. Also does anyone know what the choke adjustment is? Is is just bending that little rod to shorten it? Carbies are so complicated.

Okay I've seen the Chilton one on ebay, it's sold in the states. Would the chilton one be better than the factory one or not? Anyways I'll probably buy this one, OR, where do you download it?

cant say ive ever actually seen an original manual. i am lead to believe that the Chilterns does cover everything the original does. Pretty much a complete manual put onto cd.

you are in melbourne, therefore you have mud and dust in your carby. strip it down and clean it out. blow out your lines with compressed are as well. that's all it is.

Nah, see normally I'd agree with you, but I before putting in the new engine thats exactly what I did with the carbie, soaked in a carbie cleaner, and compressed air it's a$$, all the jets, passages and everything. Dirty carbie problems is not a possibility, it's a carbie setting or vacuum leak.
