What to do
Hey guys after a while in the patrol scene i have decided that come december im gonna flog it and get back into zooks. I rolled my last zook which i had just got converted to the 1.6 vitara efi motor. Great combo and was really happy with it.
What im concerned about now is wether i do the same thing again or do i spend a bit more and go for the jimny.
It basically spends 80% of its time on the roads and i dont want the standard 1.3 cause i thinks its a slug. It cost me pretty much $4000 for the 1.6 conversion and i am prepared to do it again although a bit more power would be nice.
1. priority is fuel usage, i was getting 10km/litre out of the converted zook and thats what i would be looking at again.

Oops - did not see the jimny bit. What are your plans for it in the future? Well my budget is gonna be 10G, so i wanna get the whole lot for that. I must admit im leaning more towards the 1.6 efi at this stage and just finding a late 80's with a good body and crap motor. I MIGHT get back into four wheel driving as a hobby, i must admit it was alot more fun in a suzi that a patrol.

power wise the suzuki 1.6 sohc 16v is a bit shy of the 4age but seriously maybe a SC12 toyo supercharger on a moded aircon bracket could bump up the ponies (but more importantly it's all torque from here )
Not that i hav anyway done but everyone seems to think with the correct adaptor plate the 1.6l carby is a relatively easy job so putting the newer efi would really on involve a electric fuel pump, regulator and filter to the list of mods. ( )
Then again you could just buy like a LWB vitara and drive it

I must admit at this stage its still looking like a sierra. My patrol is going up for sale next week after i clean her up and then its driving a bomb for a few months till the house is built and then the build up will start. Im prooly gonna end up with a std sierra and then get the engine conversion done and some after market seats put in. Then the zorst a 2" lift and some new 235's. I might go bigger yet, i have a feeling if i see nicbeers again i might go taller and bigger tyres

235's on stock gearing would be pretty annoying...
mine at stock on 215's was very noticeable, then the 1.6l engine made it a TON better... but 235's i reckon you still would barely have use of 5th gear on hills etc...
Depending on terrain (ie: beach work) dont worry about tyre height - get some nice wide buggers under there.
I drove on 215/75 with 2" springs and 1/2" shackles for 3 years and went almost everywhere i wanted to go (sometimes faster or on more of an angle than i would have liked) but never did any extensive damage offroad, infact none at all in mundaring. only damage has been a clutch and an engine on dunes (more due to being dumb than the car tho).
