Is there any other way of getting the bearing from the hub, accept for using the special "stt" or puller?

for what vehicle? ome of them are one-piece integrated jobs, just throw the old one away. two piece can usually whack the old bit off using a vice and appropriately sized socket or bit of pipe, and press the new one on in the vice, or can be tapped on CAREFULLY with a soft faced hammer, with the bearing sitting on a block of wood - it's much better for the bearing if you can push against the inside race as you push it on the carrier, but with many thrust bearings that is difficult or impossible.

its for a 1977 fj45 4 speed box. ive tried puttin in vice not done up just so bearing is sitting on either side than hiting with a socket and a hamor. it went down but i think its gona take the inside of the bearing with it so i thought id get on comp and asked before u fark sumfin up.

unless the old bearing is in very poor shape, it won't break apart. you're on the right track.

so should i just keep doin wat im doing? if i do and the bearing comes apart then wat? Where can u get new hubs from, Do u have to buy from toyota or could i just get one from wreckers?

yep keep whacking it. even if the bearing does separate you should still be able to set it up in a vice so that you can whack the hub through. if you get really reall stuck, front up to your local garage with a sixpack in one hand, bearing in the other, say "press this out please, I bring you free beer", 15 seconds later you have no beer and a pressed out bearing.

or have a shout in chit-chat or the wanted section, there is bound to be someone on the board near you, with a press or access to one.
