well i had a quick 4wd last weekend and got bogged, tried my winch for the first time and it chewed its gears out. So my new project is to get a new winch....

Ive seen those cheap 900kg ones on ebay, would they be ok for such a light car? what is the minimum dead pulling power would one need?

i depends if it needs less than 900kgs of pulling power to pull you out of what your stuck in
you could go for one of the ones on the smaller end of the market of "4wd" winches not a boat winch one designed for pulling a vehicle

Are you sure that's not 9000lbs? 900kg isn't much pulling power and wouldn't do much if you were stuck in mud or trying to pull yourself up a hill.

Well, I got some new Nology HotWires. They have a capacitor built into the wire and give about 300 times more spark than standard wires. And some Denso Iridium plugs. I can now burn 87 octane with no knock...And some red silicon vacuum hoses.

it was def 900kg $150ish. if you used a snatch block it would half the force required on the winch so you could get it todo 1600kg.. but thats probably just wishing. Wouldnt mind having a try of one before buying.

I would love a Warn 9000 winch with dyeemena rope instead of wire but funds are small atm..

I put Bombardier ATV crankcase breathers on both diffs. I wrapped the crossover exhaust with some heat wrap.

I got an aftermarket tach and got it wired up. I couldn't find a port that would work for the water temp sensor for my gauges. I spliced into the upper radiator hose and fabbed up something to work. All of my gauges work now. It doesn't show true temp till the thermo opens up but it is at the hottes point and reads well.

The windshield washer reservoir was too big to fit back in so I fabbed up this. I still have to weld some brackets on and get it mounted. It takes up a lot less space.

I bought a transmission for $75.00 but I had to swap the tail housing. After looking at it I decided it wasn't too much better than the one that I've got. I found one on Ebay that is in excellent condition and a newer stronger model than the one that I have. I have to get it in in the next few weeks.

I bought a Toyota 4.10:1 third for $50.00. I am planning on rebuilding it with 5.71's or 5.29's. My rear third was never set up right and whines between acceleration and coast.

I have a line on the next photos and may get one or both if I can afford it. It is a 5.71:1 third with an ARB installed...now that would be cool

I think that's about all except for putting the resin top back on for the winter.

Well not too much money. The winch is six years old now. The tranny was through PayPal Buyer Credit so I can just make payments. I can only afford one of the thirds with an ARB. It's at $600.00 which includes the nearly new ring and pinion set ($150.00-200.00) and install kit ($100.00-$150.00) plus the housing ($50.00). I would have had to buy the ring and pinion and install kit anyway so I figure I got the ARB (10,000mi) for $350.00. I was just over to the OuterLimits Toyota board and someone said:

ARB has just increased the price and our prices will show accordingly soon, about $1225.00 I think

Is this true? How can they cost $650.00 over here when they are made in your country and cost more? I know that there is the monetary exchange but...

So I will put the Detroit Trutrac up front and the ARB in the rear as the turning brakes don't work with the Detroit in the rear.

I thought ARB lockers had been around that price for years? I know they're not cheap, and you need to buy the compressor and pay for installation on top of that!

I have a 20 lb. Co2 tank and adjustable high flow regulator. It's a hydorstatically tested fire extinguisher from Ebay $30.00 and a used welding regulator from the same for $25.00. It will run air tools.

Realistically any compressor will do. All you need to do is buy the ARB pressure switch from them ($30) and wire that into the power line for a normal 12V compressor (using a relay to handle the current.)

IIRC they only need around 90PSI to operate which any cheap dodgy compressor will do.

I looked at various compressors both electric and pully driven. And while the air generated is free the wiring, plumbing, tank and compressor is rather expensive.

The 20lb Co2 will fill one of my 35's about 60 times from 15 psi to 30 psi for $12.50 for the gas...no wiring or plumbing. It was the easiest and cheapest way for me to have onboard air. It will fill tires in seconds instead of minutes. I can run my air impact and wratchet off of it as well as the ARB. Plus it's portable so that I can take it out of the truck and help someone a few vehicles down the trail.

Well, after a lot of thinking I have decided to borrow some money from my parents and buy both lockers. They should be shipped Monday.

I probably won't get them installed till spring time. I have to check the gear patterns, bench check the lockers for leaks, and figure out whether I want to go electric activation or direct. Right now I am thinking of the direct approach using air solenoinds like the pics.

I just picked up an ARB Magnum hand winch for $200 (steal) this way you don't have to worry about stripping gears rated at 1600kg retail for approx. $450. It's a bit more work to set up but far less cost. Besides how often does a Feroza get stuck.

and didn't see anything for Daihatsu's...I didn't see anything for Toyota Tacoma's either. I found the part number off of a nother board. The the pic that I posted were ones that I bought on Ebay not from Nology. I was sent the wrong ones for coil paks instead of a distributor like I have. They were too short and streached to the max. I wrote to the headquarters and they told me to send them back. Even though I had run them for two weeks I sent them back and they sent me the right ones brand new free of charge. They do have a limited lifetime warrenty.

I would suggest writing the company from the "contact us" at the bottom of the web page.

I have run a tank of 87 and the truck runs great. Next I will try some 85. They should pay for themselves eventually.
