Damn 'Leccy Windows!!

Post by bigbluemav »

Hi All

I tolerated it when the p/s rear window died (wound down, but not up), so I disconnected it. Now the d/s has gone. Pulled the door trim off etc. and the motor turns a treat to wind down, but very slow to no go when switched to up. Also found that the regulator had died as well.

The regulator isn't available aftermaket (allegedly) and the thieves at Ni$$an want $138 !!!

Any ideas, or does anyone have a set of (preferably) matching (manual window) door trims and winders. I have a set of 'leccy stuff (motors, switches, and trims) to swap....the front ones work fine!! :D :D :D

The problem in my experience is ALWAYS the switches, not the motor. There's not much to stop crap getting down from the rockers to the contacts, last time I fixed mine I emptied half a sand dune out of them. It's a fiddly job but not difficult. All the rocker switches come apart (small machine screws), when you get them apart you'll find that the contact points are all burnt to buggery. Polish them up with some fine emery, make sure the springs are in the right place. Hint - Plug them in and test them before you fix the door panels back!

They are all dual switches, and sometimes if one is shagged the other won't work either.

Thanks a heap guys. :D :D :D

Well I pulled out all the switches and its cured all but the original problem (p/s rear), which still goes down, but not up. The switches are actually pretty impressive in that you can open them up and service them in this manner. BIG  to ni$$an!!

I think I'll still look at changing over to manual windows. i can get the trims for about $30 each and the handles for about $8. Anyone know anyone who wants to get rid of some ro where I could get better prices??

All assistance greatly appreciated.

The drivers window reg died on myGQ when it was about 5 years old. I bit the bullet an had it replaced by Nissan Dealer (about $150 nearly 10 years ago!). Interestingly it then killed one about every 6 months after that until I traded the car. Nissan kept replacing them under their 12months Spare Parts Warranty.
I guess something was out of alignment within the mechanism to keep destroying them but as Nissan were shouting what did I care. :D
