Anyone fitted a turbo to a falcon au
Moderators: toaddog, TWISTY, V8Patrol, Moderators
Anyone fitted a turbo to a falcon au
Just got an au2 falcon sr
Has anyone turboed one on here.
Just thinking say 6 psi no intercooler, nothing serious just for something to do.
I am assuming nothing needs changing for such low pressure, been told map sens etc are ok with mild boost
standard at the moment, 5 speed.
prob build 1.5" 6 into 1 tube manifold, use internal wastegate, bov.
anyone got a suitable turbo on here for sale, maybe want to upgrade your factory ba one?
cheers bru

There is a guy at work who turbo's falcons for a pastime, he's in the Tickford Club, I can pass on the questions if you like.bru21 wrote:Just got an au2 falcon sr

that would be sweet. i just signed up to ford forums but i would rather get the info off here as i know who to trust
it would be really good if you can pass on the info. I am happy to buy a new turbo for the right price, but i will do everthing myself, like build headers etc.
cheers bru

Put two turbos on my efi windsor out of EB problem with standard engine management is they have no boost reference which means it won't supply enough fuel and advance ign. timing under boost when it needs to be retarded. causing you to lean out. which i think is worse running MAP as it is designed to measure vacuum where as MAF measures air flow alone. best bet is to check out Fordforums. and pick and choose who's talking shite and who knows about budget turbo applications
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got

Will tell you most of what you need mate. www.Fordforums.com.au, or as good if not better, www.fordmods.com
Standard ECU can be modded to suit, but it depends on the long term goal. You're better off checking those sites than me repeating it for you.

Okies...
He said 6psi on a standard 6 should be fine, the injectors will handle it fine, the ecu however will need to have the timing retarded slightly so an aftermarket ecu or reprogrammed EP-ROM would be a smart idea.
The manifold will work fine, he says to keep the runners short to help with low end responsiveness.
A suitable turbo would be a GT30/40 or GT35/40 or equivelent.
Go from there.

you are a champ. thanks mate.
i looked up on ford forums and i have never seen such a mix of ideas. also a lot are more serious runnin 14 psi etc, which i think is so stupid as it costs most of them $10 000 and you can buy a ba turbo motor for 5k, bolt it is and spend the other 5 at aps and have way more herps and factory bulletproofness.
cheers bru

Easier said than done with the XR6T motor though. If you're really, really lucky you might find one for 5k, but I'd expect to pay closer to 8k+.
The BCM on the BA picks up inputs from all over the car from things as small as the head unit and requires a lot of effort to swap. I've still only seen the one car in the country with a transplanted motor. I suppose for the dollars required you can now buy an early Turbo BA with it factory fitted.
Your standard fuel system will be good for around 180rwkw with only minor tweaking. Consider the internally gated gt3540 of an XR6T as the turbo. As an indicator of it's potential Adam and the HPF team ran Austs first XR6T 9 sec pass recently, all with the stock turbo.
Good luck champ.

yeah i am sure the wiring would be intricate, nothing to put me off doing such a conversion though, might take a few days with a soldering iron but thats ok
it won't be long till there is a clip in loom for $750 anyway.
thanks for the info, looking at getting a wrecked falcon factory turbo now, wreckers haven't got back to me.
cheers bru
