Gday, im about to make a home fab snorkel for my zook, ive searched and most ppl seem to use 3" pipe. Is it ok to use 2", as thats what the origional intake size is, even smaller.
Im just worried about leaning it out due to increasing airspeed due to length of pipe, but that shouldnt really be a problem as the filter (restriction) is in stock location.
I made one out of 2", if I did it again I would use 3 inch, then you can buy a proper snorkel ram head for $32 from detroit diesel.
I had to ditch my snorkel for my exo anyways so...
Well looks like i dont have a choice anyway, bunnings no longer stock anything to do with (75mm) 3" pvc pipe except for the actual pipe itself. I just went for 2", and if the 4age sucks more air which im sure it will, im buildin another 2" snorkel for the other side
Ill post pics soon, but in the last two hours ive pretty much completed my snorkel, minus gluing. Something is sure to go wrong with gluing, as everything else went together like clockwork. It was bloody perfect!
The pipe even sits inside the fender mounted in the origional mounts, everythings perfectly inline...
Just used pvc pipe with a few bends in it.
I used 2 1/2 " exhaust tube. Just buy a small length of tube, and a mandrel bend...('U' tye bend) which can be cut to make your 90 degree benf out of the gaurd, and 2 45's to get the rest done.
Cost $30 plus a can of paint, and some time with the mig.

And if you want to use a 3" snorkel head take your pipe to an exhaust shop and have them expand then end out to 3".
You may want to steer clear of using PVC pipe. Christover had one and it exploded when he clipped a tree with it. Not a nice thing to have bits of pvc flying around. Get an exhaust shop to bend one up for you
Hot tip kaos, go the pvc!
It will break before it does to much damage to your car the mandrel ones that the cool kids have will wreck their cars because it wont give!

Already done that
I'd rather din't my snorkel, then smach it and have bits of plastic get sucked down into my filter.

Seen it the other week in person.
Chop
Well my steel one has supported the weight of my vehicle without any damage, mind you it is steel tube not exhaust tube
Regarding the PVC thing, the first reason i would NOT use it is that it looks like complete arse. Nothing shouts out hokey-backyard-cobbled-together-piece-of-crap like a pvc snork
Ill take photos of mine today and post em, have a gander.
I sanded off all the embossed letters and painted it black, it looks quite reasonable actually.
Anyway, looks take a big backseat to functionality on my zook.
