Hilux suspension

Post by brighty »

OK, I know this has been talked about heaps in other threads but I been searchin for ages and can't find a rough step by step guide to:

** IFS rears into rear of lux and moving rears to the front. **

Can someone point me in the right direction????

The info I was after is...

Exactly what needs to be done to do this... ie: non obvious parts, welding, diff relocation/how far does this move the diffs?? etc.... this is for a mate of mine with 93 2.4td dual cab. Also, what diff ratios would work best for 35's on the lux as he's going to be getting rid of the detriots and getting air lockers.... do it all in 1 hit!!!

Cheers.
When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!

By no means am i claiming to be an expert on this subject, heres what i've done on mine after reading the DIY IFS rears and dozens of other posts around here.

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=46675

I opted to move the rear shackle mount backwards to correct the shackle angle as opposed to just running longer shackles.

Seems to work OK but have not had another built rig to compare it to.

The IFS rears did move the diff back, the lift did pull the driveshaft out a bit more. Simply purchased a driveshaft spacer from BBM in Sydney and bolted it in. Note spacers do not come with the bolts you need to install them.

The spacer is a Snake racing unit, buy it from BBM or similar, this way you'll get it the next day.

Make some 200mm shackles for the rear and just chuck the ifs springs in, it doesn't get much simpler than that, The tailshaft length will be fine, the pinion angle will be good, and the springs will end up being alot softer than the standard ones.

As for the rears in front im not 100% sure, but what i have planned is to use my 150mm shackles in their factory location, use the bottom 2 leaves from my current front set and the top 3 from my rear set. This "should" give about 2" of lift in the spring alone, add on the 2 odd inches in the shackle and it would be 3 to 4". This is all an asumption at the moment so dont quote me for fact.

As for the diffs, 4.8's are the way to go, 5.29's are the correct ratio for 35's to bring your speedo back into check but unfortunately have a weak pinion that is prone to breaking if your a bit heavy footed off road.

only problem i could see with RUF and standard spring mounts is that the shackle would hit the body mount. So you would want to run "banana shackles" to counter this.

Only if you run IFS rears in the front do you need to worry about that. Standard rears in the front will be ok.

I have standard rears in the front of mine, the shackles make contact with the body mount whilts poser flexing with the forklift. With a little more force they may hit harder.

Like i said i do not profess to be an expert on this.

this is only the case if you move the hanger forward otherwise they definately hit on the body mount. IFS rears up front require the shackle hanger to be moved further back ;)

Don't forget about a track bar if your putting IFS rears in the back. As well as dropped hangers in the front for RUF. Look at Xover steering as well, the flex you should get from RUF may snap your stock steering. Go to www.superiorengineering.com.au for all that shit, Mick does quaility work. Plus Snake is over priced.
