Outback Challenge Logistics

Post by dieseldude »

Hey,

I'm planning a trip to next years Outback Challenge and want to know if it is at all possible to head west from Broken Hill after the comp has finished and pick up the Birdsville Track?

I've had a quick look over some maps and sure it is somehow but not sure on the best way to do this.

If so, I plan on heading up it to Birdsville, spend some time looking around there going out to Big Red etc, then back to Brisbane via Longreach and the stockman's hall of fame etc.

What else is there of interest to see whilst out that way?

Ant suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking of taking 3 weeks to do the round trip from Brisbane including 1 week spectating the Comp.

Thanks

Anthony.

you can head north to Tiboburra, Camerons Corner, Innamincka, Coongie Lakes, Birdsville. Awesome trip although we didn't make it to Birdsville due to floods but all the rest was good

Cheers mate

When you say north, is that instead of going up the Birdsville Track or are all those places you mentioned along the Track itself?

Do you have a writeup of the trip that you did? Sounds interesting..... Along the lines of what I want to do......

Keep it coming please....

Anthony

Anthony,

Shane Geerish (BIG RED) is probably one of the best blokes to talk to about where to go, what to see, how long it takes to see it all and take it all in, etc.

Have a look at some of his pics from his most recent trip.

Shane has done this trip many times and many different ways. ;)

From Broken hill to camerons cnr, Merty Merty, Strezleki tk to Marre, onto Birdsville tk to birdsville. recommand either staying at Clayton HS or Mungeranie. Both have a great spot for a wash and Mungerannie has a great bar to drink at.

Also I think this should be in trips section.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
