Screwed My Baby Zook need a hand

Post by Try_Me »

hey ppl

need a bit of a hand, im only 16 and i let my mate drive my zook (big mistake  ). We took it to kurnel today and went airborn over a sand dune first one to unintentionaly. i think we were doing between 30-40kms i didnt even have my seat belt on coz i had just got out to fix hubs. mate didnt no what he was doing i guess never been before ( ) cuz he didnt stop when i was yelling at him to stop and i didnt manage to put seat belt on either so ye fun stoped very fast after that.

well we mainaged to bend stock leafies bad the front of the car is lowered bad enough i can tell by looking( front leafies e.g --^- ment to be -v- ) and the back are ok i think need to get them checked out. we also broke windscreen ( with my head :? ) lucky didnt cut my self mum almost bashed me.

just wondering what you guys think i should do with my zook at this stage with suspention what i should buy where from, prices and so forth and what eles you guys think might be screwed with it and what is the best option out of this shit for me and less costly  .

thanks nick

pics will be up soon of damage etc

Shiat never let so called mates drive!! Definatly time for a spring lift :D most zuk owners recommend OME lifted springs, from an arb store usually around 700 dollar mark i think. without shocks. definatly time for some pics!!!

Check the shackles are not inverted and holding the front down. Then the diff itself not bent, then the springs.

I'd be asking your mate to foot the bill.... sound slike he's done at least $500 and more like $1000 damage to your rig.

Hope to hell he hasnt bent the chassis as well.....

ive done jumps in my zuk when i first got it... 90km/hr on the dunes, getting about 1.5m of air between the bottom of the tyres and the sand... had a few rough landings, but most were smooth...

afte a week of doing this (yes, a week) i bent the front diff housing on the drivers side about 10 degrees out of whack..

my springs were already sagged so they were due to be replaced anyway.

in the end - new housing fitted = $300 (incl. housing, labour etc) and about $1200 for new leaves all round incl. shockies etc. no other damage.

so yeah - check your mates bank account - at least get him to pay half...

if you want to jump dunes, buy a bike, quad or truck built for it.

a sierras diff will compress up until it hits the bump stops, which is the whole front weight of the car hitting your housing.

solution (I'm dreaming)
maybe sring over, to get a bit more distance between chassis and axle tube.
dual shockies on either side progressive bump stop.
and alot of diff strengthening.

and it will probably break something else. and or not actually work like I am dreaming it will.

ps I bent my diff. I used to drive flat out from lavis lane to birubi on stockton beach, I had a few too many big jumps. not deliberate they just came up too fast.

the rear diff in mine has been braced on the passenger side and has copped a hiding and it is still straight. it was braced with 100x50x3mm box i think and then tapered down to the SOA mount. i am doing the front one in a couple of weeks.
And as for bending the springs back that is a big no. throw em away and get new ones or second hand.

mate i have some 2inch lift springs for sale for $400. They've done less than 3,000ks cause my car is always at home on the racks gettin modded. I don't have any shocks for them but the easiest way to get some would be to measure the length (taking in compression decompression travel) you need and just go to repco or somewhere and look for any small bore brand for any car that has the same mounting (pin to eye front) (eye to eye back) and the length you require. And if your thinking of going a little bit better ring rancho or someone like that and get some standard small bore lenghts and build some new shock hoops on your rig to match. OR i can give you my 2inch lift shocks that match the springs for an extra $250 and i'll bite the bullet and build some hoops.

Give us a ring if u like 0422 514 783.
