Hey fellas!
I got some new spotties last week, fitted them on friday and redid all my wiring to and from them. I had the original little Bosch rectangular lights left over and got to thinking that I would install them as reversing lights.
My question is: Where would I tap the active wire from? (you know, the one with the inline fuse?)
And, where is the switch that turns them on when I select reverse?

Im doing the same thing with a small pair of spots, you cant hook them straight up to the reverse light (it'll blow the fuse, I know I did it twice) I'm going to run a direct power wire from the batt (going to power an amp also) and tap into the reverse light to operate a relay that way it should work.

i only took a stab in the dark that it'd be in gearbox. but i'd say it would more likely be at the bottom of your gearstick just before it goes in the box, as i cant imagine leccy stuff in with the oil and gearsBowhunter wrote:yeah that's the one...is it actually IN the gearbox is it?

wire them up the same as a pair of spotties, eg. switch, relay etc, but instead of using high beam wire as a trigger for the relay u can use the reverse light wire. still have a switch so they can be turned on or off but only working when in reverse. this way u should have no probs legality wise.

i just hooked up a reverse spotlight for my car. its not connected to the reverse lamp at all as i dont see the need for it except when i REALLY want it.
I ran a always on 12v (fused) to the right rear glovebox where i also put a cig lighter and relay to control the reverse lamp via a switch on the dash next to the front spotlight switch. Both switches are illuminated, red for rear and green for front.
The rear spotlight wire runs through the tailgate and the light is mounted to the spare wheel.
Looks pretty good and works well.

The switch for the reverse light is on the right side of the gearbox, up high. it screws in and out.

Pull it out and give it a good clean. I lost my 4wd light on the dash and revived the switch using some contact cleaner and silicone spray. I sprayed it into the switch assembly while operating it numerous times by hand. Gradually it came back to life.
It continued working right up until I sold it.

Bit "left field" but its possible the switch isn't unique to Feroza's - wreckers might have something that will do the job.
Daihatsu ( like most car companies ) try and reuse as many bits as possible - the switch might even be used on the Charade or Applause passenger cars.
Perhaps worth a look.....
