coolant temperature?

coolant temperature?
How long should a Feroza take to warm up and where does the temp needle normally sit? I've got the impression my thermostat is stuck open (or I haven't got one fitted?!)
Mine takes a long time to warm up on cool mornings and the needle is lucky to go past 1/4 way between cold and hot- is this normal? In summer it's fine and sits around halfway. I know my viscous hub fan seems to be shagged too as no matter what the coolant temp it's always got the same resistance to turning by hand. So possibly some dodgey, ummmm, person? has taken the thermostat out to compensate in hot weather so it doesn't overheat.
Any thoughts? The thermostat looks like a pain in the a**e to replace as it hidden under the power steering pump.

I let Our Feroza idle for about half a cup of coffee and 1 cig , then after about 5 mins of driving it gets to about half way and never moves from there , even in summer

Thats about where mine sits, except on a real hot day in traffic with the aircon on. I fitted a new thermostat a while ago because I was thinking the same as you. Already had one and the new one made no difference to where the gauge sits.

Leon, how hard was the new thermostat to fit- the power steering pump looks to be in the way big time?
Also, is there a gasket between the thermostat housing and the block? In the factory manual it appears as though there isn't??
I have to change the coolant again soon, so if it isn't too hard a job I might just do it anyway.

David it's not to hard to get at. Time and patience is needed. Can't remember if there was a gasket but since there was one in the packet I think I would have fitted it. A much harder replacement was the water pump. I fitted an aftermarket one and I now remember ever since then the motor has run a little hotter. Nothing to worry about.
