Simex ET's Vs JT2's
Whats the difference between the two in terms of performance? I've noticed in some comps that a lot of people run the JT2, where over here most seem to run the ET?
I would assume that each performs better than the other in different circumstances, but where is one better than the other?
How quick do these wear? (Considering 33x10.5-16 JT2's on a Disco)

I havn't had much experience with either but what i have seen is that the ET works well on heavy rigs like nissans etc and they are great on dirt hill climbs, in the mud they seemed to work well (there no BOGGER) but on rocks they pretty well sucked! They also perform remarkably well on road!
The JT2's seem to be very similar but with slightly better performance on rock! I have not seen enough of them on other surfaces to make a correct judgement!
If i was going for a all-round serious tyre i would choose the ET!

one of the big advantages of the jt2 is that they can be regrooved. biggest jt2 is a 34". an extremely tough tyre and very heavy in the carcass.
IMO this can be an advantage, at low pressures you get the long footprint, without the soft squirmy sidewall. on the right weight vehicle, the narrow tread gives good surface area ratio to surface pressure (IMO)

my ets have done around 25,000 and are down to 40 to 50 percent.
the only others i can compare too is the bias claws, the et's seem better all round except straight line loose dirt traction.
i only had the claws for one trip though and ripped off a couple of lugs.
the ets grip better on road wet or dry than my bfg mt's and absolutely blitz them off road.
the et's are very noisy if that sort of thing worries you, no more sneaking home late cos the whole neiborhood hears you coming

I had a mate with JT2s on an MQ wagon, then a GQ wagon, these were his daily driver tyres (34") and he got 60,000 till he had no sipes between the blocks. Had them regrooved for $50 (pretty good job too I might add) and I reckon he'll get another 30,000
I run them on the family wagon (Maverick) and can't fault them, but then I'm on a limited budget. I like the sheer toughness and reliability of these tyres, I've seen and filmed them on some sharp terrain (on mine and other people's rigs) and the sidewalls just say "don't argue".

I have run a set of 32x9.5 ETs on a Willys Jeep for nearly 2 years - tread has worn probably 25% - probably only 8,000 to 10,000 kms as I only drive it on weekends and 20% of that would be competition.
Front wheel lug wear has been the biggest problem, I run a lockright in the front and it really bites and I have lost the ends on a couple of lugs, I moved the front tyres to the back after 12 mths.
DISAGREE - here in Indonesia they are THE tyre for mud barring pure tractor tyresin the mud they seemed to work well (there no BOGGER)
Malaysia has a lot of rocks and the rockcrawlers here also use ETs - but we have more mud than rocks !but on rocks they pretty well sucked!

My only complaint is on side ways grip - I have shat myself a few times on sloping and slippery ground right next to deep rivers - part of this is the dual lockers - it is REAL IMPORTANT to NOT break traction - i.e. no wheelspin - I nearly ended up in in 3 metres of rapidly flowing river

These were a great tyre.
mud - awesome, plain and simple. Never had a problem with lateral traction. Splitting hairs between ET and JT2's here.
rock - I didn't like them that much on rock as already stated. Especially wet rock, they would only walk up stuff when the lugs were gripping and on really cut up rock shelves would not work very well. ET's just take the cake here.
Snow - Could crawl on deep dry powder so that it compressed, drive along through 1-2 foot deep without a problem. JT2's were damn good in snow, and so were the ET's. Too hard to call.
Road - JT2's are noisier. Didn't really matter what psi they were at. Just changed the sweet spot for noise. ET's ride worse, but I think that is because I have them on beadlocks.
They are both damn good tires.
ET's are directional though.
JT2's are cheaper.
Too hard to call. Find a bargain and grab the first ones that come up.

Hey thanks for all of the feedback re the ET's and JT2's. Much of this info is new to me.
There were some comments about the lateral traction of the JT2 not being quite up to the task. How would these compare to regular muddies like the BFG MT and Cooper STT in mud?

My BFG MT's are better laterally than my JT2's - they are much the same on the road... the BFG's are 11.5 inches wide and are just as noisy as the trekkers on tarmac - hard to believe really....
The ET's clear better than the JT's in the sticky mud and the BFG's don't even rate as a mud tyre compared to the Simex's....

I got 125000k's from my BFG Muds (35x12.5x15) and then sold them with 20% tread still on them. IMHO they are the best all round tyre if you are only going to have 1 set of tyres.
