haha yeh im interested too.... it prolly started as something simple like tyres hanging out or something..

maybe the cop was just having a bad day...

best scenario you can get your butt to an engineer and get it all approved before the sticker expires!

lol they must have had good eyes to pick up on that while driving

i followed the rig before and just a guess i say they pulled him because he has no mud flaps on it

then when he was pulled up they would have stung him for more

u can see the whole rear tire plus then another foot above it

what was defected

Post by bennybigballs »

1 no mud flaps
2 front wheels protruding outside front guard
3 front bumper removed
4 engine oil leak
5 diff leak
6 aftermarket seats
7 fuel tank re positioned
8 suspension mod
9 chassis extension
10 body changed
11 rust hole in front right pillar
all of the above have been okayed by an engineer except for bracing where i joined on the extra chassis rail and a couple of other things that he wanted me to fix up before i get it engineered
2" body lift has to be engineered as well engineer told me that any body lift needs to be engineered but you are allowed up to 2" of suspension without a certificate

hence why older members (from qld at least) dont post up about their mods much anymore, and specially dont show their plates on here ;)

And cover their plates for offroad use where they may be filmed.

remember - yoi're in a state where all these mods can be made legal relatively easily - so go and do it before you get nabbed, not after.

Then you can tell porky to piss off (in a nice way).

Of course he'll book you anyway, but at least you have grounds for a complaint.

i think this particular cop is a cheeky bastard because because he targeted me big time i was about 200 metres behind him and he turned around and then immediately turned on me after he went past then he left his lights flashing while he did the usual frig around haflf an hours worth of paper work so i told him not to put the pretty yellow sticker on my front window because it would impair my vision

not the cops fault your rig was illegal. i have been through the same thing, 2 yeras off the road getting it sorted. If my and your rig had been legal then he wouldn't have defected you. Simple. I know it is annoying and a pain in the arse but it could have been avoided by doing ot by the book. Luckily we come from states where these sort of mods can be made through legal means

i'd have to agree. the flip side is i need a safety certificate every year
not just when i want to transfer rego

Believe me theres a whole lot of ittle things that won't pass unnnoticed for a few years

flip side again is that you got better chance of buying a vehicle that has been maintained (if it's stock and note the word chance :P )

i have given up. I dont know whether or not to keep my truck or sell it. Basically if you have tyres 15mm bigger than standard in QLD then you are driving an illegal vehicle. How many 4x4s have bigger tyres than standard? Hmmmmm.... All because some bright spark decided that was the rule. So much for a free country.

But checking at the transport site im allowed to make a car twice as fast by putting a turbo on it and changing the brakes. HUH?

Is there some way of partitioning the gov to change certain laws?

I work in govt ... last thing we need is more partitioning

You could get a petition together and send it to the state minister for transport if you're really keen :) I wish you luck though getting any kind of response.

You're absolutely right though there is no way to legally approve these things in QLD so you either don't do it or do it at your own risk.

Bennybigballs can at least now go get his approved as a recourse :) Are there any updates on this BTW, are you talking to an engineer about getting it all legit :?:

I have had a good whinge about all this in the past. The only thing I would like to add is just consider the sort of stuff they get away with in the US.

At the end of the day I am kinda glad the rules are as strict as they are. I mean there is already some scary shit out on the roads so imagine if it was open slather.
