300tdi exhust manifold

Post by redlux1 »

i need a new manifold on my 300tdi defender but the manifold is not standard and am hoping someone here can give me some info. it's a 1998 d/c defender that has had an auto conversion in melbourn when near new and the turbo is water cooled. where the turbo meets the manifold it is a totaly diferent bolt up to usual. can anyone tell me where i might be able to find one or any other info
will try to get a photo up soon if that helps

cheers

Could it have a manifold from a 200Tdi and a different turbo?

Isn't the 200Tdi turbo integral with the manifold?

The turbo should have the manufacturer's name and model number on it. e.g. Garret T-03 etc...

That might narrow down the search - if it is an aftermarket turbo you can ring around the suppliers of that turbo.

I think 200's have a seperate turbo and manifold, where a 300tdi has a "one piece" turbo/manifold set up

it's not a 200tdi manifold and i cant find any markings on it but dose seem to have the same "arms" (the manifold is 3 peices) as a standard 300 one but the turbo bolt up is completly different :?

Sorry I don't know what it is off then, but would be interested to know what you find out.

I know it is not from a 2.8 powerstroke - they fit the 300Tdi but are one piece.

200Tdi have a bolt on turbo.

300Tdi have the turbine housing and wastegate integral with the centre part of the manifold. This centre part has the exhaust ports for No 2 and 3 cylinders. Two branches, for the No 1 and 4 cylinders slip into the centre part of the manifold.

The Garrett turbo on the 300Tdi is not water cooled and AFAIK neither is the 200Tdi turbo.

200tdi disco mabe? these sat down low like a 300 tdi but had a bolt on turbo. the 200tdi defender ones sat up high and had the turbo bolted on the top. The only other thing i can think of is a early 2.5 turbo diesel (late 80s) but this model wasnt ever released in Aus.

Is it a Mitsubishi TDO4 turbo ?
If so, it is a MTQ Engine Services (formerly DTS) 200/300tdi upgrade.
They basically use the No 1&4 300Tdi exhaust manifold branches and a new cast centre section to suit the TDO4.
MTQ have branches in most states, and their kit production has just been transfered to Sydney (Wetheril Park/Smithfield)
