Need help with Vitara Steering shafts.

Post by SiKiD_01 »

i need to 'fix' my steering shaft in my vit cos Mr Engineer said i have to.

i have a 3" BL that i'm trying to get engineered, and so he's worried about the steering shaft, and it pulling out of the box or whatever. basically, i need to push the spline bit back in.

now, cutting and welding steering stuff is real bad and a no no, so i've found a later model vit, like '94 onwards, and they have a rag joint in the steering shaft, similar to a sierra.

now i know when they do sierra BL, the just put in a spacer where the rag joint is, and this pushes the splined section back in to normal factory specs.

now what i would like to know, is if the later model shaft, from a '94 model, has the same spline count as my vit, '89 model, and so if it is, it will be a nice bolt in.

the later '94 model has a power steer box, well, all 3 of the vits at the wreckers have power steer, (and yes, i already asked for power steer, will cost $600 for box, lines, and pump etc), anyway, do they all have the same spline count?

the dude at the wreckers want $90 for the shaft. is it worth it, or am i getting shafted? this is basically all i need to pass engineers, so i guess its kinda worth it.

thanks for any help any one can give.

P.S, i have 31" Simex ET's on their way for my vit. should be good. and the reason for 31"s is cos i cant get anything bigger engineered, so if its printed on the tyre its a 31", then they cant pull me off the road again!

no one knows huh.

anyway, does anyone know if the rag joint in the vit shaft is the same diameter as a rag joint in the sierra shaft?
