taller diff gears

taller diff gears
Hey guys,
I don't own a pajero but I have a Pajero diff in my Corona drag car.
I originally had a single spinner which became a bit noisy so I replaced it. The original I was told was a 4.6 so from research it was actually a 4.625. I then bought an LSD which I was told was a 4.6 also but it seems that it is actually a 4.875:1.
I got my first full pass down the strip on the weekend and the diff ratio is just too low. Third gear in the auto is 1:1 and I am running 225/60 15's and I run out of revs at about 105mph. I need to be able to hit about 125-130mph.
I think the diff is out of a 90 model Pajero. That is what the 4wd place said but the diff guy said an 90 model.
Is there any option for me to fit a taller ratio?
I have heard that possible an L200 ute diff has a 4.22:1 ratio and that would fit in.
From this info I have just found here, it seems that I have a Nf or NG rear diff which is 9â€

I have tried google, I have tried Pajeroclub, I have tried performanceforums, I have tried 2 diff shops who REALLY weren’t helpful. I just can’t believe that they would have such a limited range of options eg. If you have a G series Toyota diff that came from hilux’s to supras you can get ratios from around 3.3 all the way up to 5.0. I am sure something must be able to fit as I really don’t want to swap diff housings.
Thanks for your reply though mate.

Measurements taken yesterday:
Total radius of the mounting plate is 77cm.
It is a 10 bolt diff and each bolt is approx 8 cm apart.
The crown gear is 8" in diameter.
There are some numbers on the crown gear which are 339(ho in japanese)51120
The axle is 30.5mm at the spline and 33mm further down
It is a 28 spline axle.
Brakes are solid disks 330mm X10mm with big single piston calipers.
I rang a Mitsu wreckers and he said that I am stuck with that ratio and the 4.22's that the L200 utes come out with is a smaller diff and doesn't bolt in.
Except I thought the diff I had was a 9" but the crown gear is definitely 8" so does this mean an L200 diff may fit?
Here are some pics that may help?

Chris, the 8" ring gear is a 10 bolt and the 9" ring gear is a 12 bolt.
I have heard rumours of a 10 bolt 9" that was used around the late 80's and early 90's but have never seen one.
The rear disc brakes look like a custom job (not standard) ??
When we say a 8" or 9" we mean the the diameter of the crownwheel (on the gear side).
If you have a 9" then there is nothing in Oz vehicles that is lower than a 4.625 you will have to get a 9" 3.90/4.22 from the US.
If you have the 8" there are a few local possibilities :-
- 2wd (4 cylinder) L200/Triton = 4.22.
- Starion has a 3.54 and a 3.90 lsd in later models.
Where abouts are you located ?
Frank.

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
Well, just been to the wreckers.
Triton diff was way too big. Unsure what year model. It was about 90cm perimeter and was a 10 bolt also. Drum brakes.
Another pajero diff was also around the same size, 10 bolt and disc brakes.
Tried 2 2wd L300's and they were about 72cm perimeter, 10 bolt diffs.
The diff I have is 77cm perimeter diff so none of them seem to fit. I need to find more Triton ones (I think 2wd) as they should be smaller and hopefully the same size as what I have.
If anyone has a
2wd Triton
2wd L200
Sigma
Scorpion
Starion
Can you please measure the perimeter of the diff where it mounts and how many bolts it uses. This would be greatly appreciated as I can't find any of these diffs in wreckers so far.

Can I get my 4.625:1 locked? Just like a minispool section that will permanently lock the diff. Can you get these for Pajero diffs? Don't want an air locker as they look like way too much work.
Otherwise, if someone has a 4.625 LSD, I can swap you for my 4.875:1 LSD. That would be ideal
All help appreciated
